Job Title: Switch Technology Design EngineerLocation: Hyderabad Department: Mechanical Engineering Experience: 3+ Years Reporting To: Engineering ManagerJob OverviewWe are seeking a Switch Technology Design Engineer to design and develop electromechanical low-current and rotary switches for automotive applications. The role involves owning the product lifecycle from concept design, prototyping, validation, and production transfer, ensuring reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with automotive standards.The ideal candidate will have strong experience in electromechanical switch design, contact systems, and automotive electronics environments.Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Design & DevelopmentDesign and develop electromechanical low-current switches, rotary switches, and related components for automotive applications such as infotainment systems, HVAC controls, instrument clusters, sensors, and body electronics.Engineer contact systems for microamp to milliamp current ranges, focusing on contact resistance, bounce, durability, and corrosion mitigation.Design mechanical components including detents, actuators, shafts, housings, springs, and elastomeric interfaces.Develop multi-position rotary systems, wipers, indexing mechanisms, and tactile feedback systems.Engineering & SimulationCreate 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and BOMs using tools such as SolidWorks or equivalent.Perform mechanical and electrical simulations including contact dynamics, wear analysis, and reliability simulations.Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and reliability evaluations.Testing & ValidationDefine and execute test plans including:Functional testingEnvironmental testing (temperature, humidity, vibration)Lifecycle endurance testingEMC/ESD testingUse lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, LCR meters, vibration rigs, and environmental chambers.Reliability & QualityPerform DFMEA and root cause analysis to identify and resolve design failures.Support automotive reliability and compliance requirements, including safety and quality standards.Cross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with systems engineering, PCB design, firmware teams, suppliers, and manufacturing teams.Ensure products meet cost targets, manufacturability requirements, and production scalability.Support supplier qualification and component selection.Documentation & Production TransferPrepare technical specifications, validation reports, and verification documentation.Support PPAP documentation and production release processes.Required QualificationsEducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in:Electromechanical EngineeringMechanical EngineeringElectrical EngineeringOr related disciplineExperience3+ years of experience designing electromechanical switches or rotary switches.Experience working in automotive electronics or harsh environment applications preferred.Required Technical SkillsStrong knowledge of contact physics for low-current circuitsExperience with contact materials and plating (Gold, Silver, Nickel, etc.)Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or equivalentExperience with mechanical and electrical simulation toolsKnowledge of DFMEA, reliability engineering, and design reviewsFamiliarity with automotive reliability testing protocolsExperience with PCB-mounted switch interfaces and microcontroller inputsPreferred SkillsKnowledge of automotive standards such as:ISO 26262AEC‑Q100Experience designing rotary encoders or multi-position switchesUnderstanding of low-power automotive electronics and signal integrityExperience with supplier management and production transferKey CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent documentation and communication abilitiesAbility to work in cross-functional engineering teamsHands-on approach to prototyping and validationAbility to work in a fast-paced product development environmentWork EnvironmentPrimarily office and engineering lab environment with standard workstation equipment.Occasional work in testing environments involving electronic measurement and environmental testing equipment.Ability to travel up to 25% for supplier or project requirements.
