Job Description: MEP Manager – Data Center Position Title MEP Manager – Data Center Location Project Site / Corporate Office Reports To Project Director / Project Manager Job Summary The MEP Manager – Data Center is responsible for planning, coordination, execution, and supervision of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works for data center projects. The role ensures that all MEP systems such as HVAC, power distribution, cooling systems, fire protection, BMS/IBMS, DCIM, and plumbing are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements. The MEP Manager will work closely with design teams, contractors, vendors, and commissioning teams to ensure high reliability and uptime standards required for mission-critical facilities. Key Responsibilities Project Management • Lead and manage all MEP activities for Data Center construction projects. • Review MEP designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements. • Develop and monitor MEP project schedules aligned with overall construction timelines. • Coordinate with civil, structural, and IT infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration. Design & Engineering Coordination • Review and validate HVAC cooling systems including chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, and containment systems. • Review electrical systems including UPS, generators, transformers, switchgear, PDUs, and electrical panels. • Ensure proper design coordination for fire detection & suppression systems. • Coordinate with consultants for value engineering and design optimization. Site Execution • Supervise installation of MEP equipment and services as per approved drawings and method statements. • Ensure compliance with international data center standards and safety requirements. • Monitor contractor performance, quality, and progress. Testing & Commissioning • Oversee Testing & Commissioning (T&C) of all MEP systems. • Coordinate Integrated Systems Testing (IST) for mission-critical infrastructure. • Ensure readiness for client acceptance and handover. Energy Efficiency & Data Center Standards • Develop and implement strategies to maintain optimal Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). • Ensure adoption of energy-efficient technologies and operational practices. • Monitor energy consumption metrics and recommend improvements to reduce operational costs. • Demonstrate understanding of data center rating systems and availability levels. • Possess knowledge of the differences between data center ratings including redundancy levels and uptime requirements. Systems Knowledge & Technical Expertise • Strong knowledge of IBMS (Integrated Building Management System) and DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) platforms. • Understanding of electrical panels, switchboards, and power distribution systems used in data centers. • In-depth knowledge of data center cooling systems and cooling cycles including chillers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC units, and chilled water systems. • Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics related to mission-critical infrastructure. Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. • Professional certifications related to Data Center Design or Commissioning are an advantage. Experience • 10–15 years of experience in MEP engineering or construction. • Minimum 5 years in Data Center or mission-critical facilities. • Experience managing large-scale MEP installations. Technical Skills • Data Center cooling systems (CRAC, CRAH, chillers, containment). • Electrical systems (UPS, generators, MV/LV distribution, electrical panels). • Fire suppression systems. • BMS / IBMS / DCIM integration and monitoring systems. • Commissioning procedures for critical infrastructure. Soft Skills • Strong leadership and team management. • Excellent coordination and communication skills. • Problem solving and decision-making abilities. • Ability to manage multiple contractors and stakeholders. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) • On-time completion of MEP milestones. • Quality compliance and minimal rework. • Successful commissioning and system reliability. • Budget adherence.
