About Role Flipkart Group is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data, Technology & Intellectual Property (IP) Legal Counsel & Associate Director to manage and protect the company’s digital technologies, AI-GenAI innovations, data assets, IP Asset management, strategy and advisory, and ensuring compliance with applicable Technology, AI, Data and IP laws and regulations. This role will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, IT, Marketing, Commercial, Ethics & Compliance (E&C), Privacy Compliance, Trust and Safety, Infosec, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) teams and others to provide subject matter legal guidance and strategic compliance advisories for all Flipkart Group companies. You are Responsible for : ● Advise internal stakeholders on IP rights protection strategies and risk assessment involving trademarks, copyrights, designs, trade secrets and patents. ● Advise, manage and coordinate IP portfolio filings, prosecution, registrations and enforcement in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external counsels. ● Collaborate with engineering, product, commercial, and marketing teams on IP risk management, patent strategy, and open-source software use and compliance. ● Support IT, cybersecurity, data governance, data sharing, and ERM initiatives, including data privacy, data security and related compliance and licensing issues. ● Support privacy policy implementation and undertake privacy impact assessments across the Group in collaboration with stakeholders on risk mitigation and remediation. ● Support M&A, strategic and corporate development activities by conducting IP due diligence and support the drafting of disclosures, warranties and agreements. ● Monitor, interpret and advise on the legal developments related to emerging technologies, such as AI-GenAI, Agentic AI, Blockchain, Encryption, etc. ● Review and support the negotiation of a wide range of technology agreements, including software licenses (SaaS, PaaS, on-prem), AI-GenAI development and deployment agreements, cloud services agreements, software licensing, technology transfer contracts and related areas. ● Conduct training and awareness sessions Privacy Policy, Brand Management Policy, Data Retention Policy, AI Policy, etc. and develop/improvise relevant internal policies as needed. ● Support and collaborate with the Litigation and Disputes team towards defense, enforcement and protection of the intermediary status before the courts and tribunals. ● Track and manage IP infringement claims and notices by brands and licensees and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure an efficient due-diligence process and the take-downs. ● Partner and collaborate with Government/Corporate Affairs team and other core stakeholders on driving policy and regulatory advocacy with the Govt and Industry bodies. ● Partner and collaborate with respective Walmart stakeholders to maintain high standards of Governance of the Data, Technology & IP policies, practices and management. ● Manage, coach and develop a team of lawyers and build a trusted, collaborative, high-performing and learning environment, aligned with the Culture of Flipkart Group. You Should have: ● 10–15 years of post-qualification experience in a top law firm and/or in-house legal department with a focus on data, technology and IP laws, preferably in an e-commerce environment. ● Deep experience in drafting and negotiating complex technology transactions and related risk assessment in view of the emerging regulations. ● In-depth understanding of trademarks, copyright, and trade secret law and jurisprudence. Good knowledge of the Patent and Designs systems would be desirable. ● Strong understanding of existing and emerging/new data protection regulations (e.g., DPDPA, GDPR, CCPA) as they intersect with technology use and innovation. ● Robust analytical and communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders. ● Proactive, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities and decision making in a fast-paced and agile environment. ● Trusted senior stakeholder management skills and strong people management capabilities Why work with us?
