Job Description

About UrbanPiper: UrbanPiper powers 20,000+ restaurants — from neighbourhood favourites to the world's biggest chains — helping them manage everything from online orders to in-store operations. Backed by Tiger Global, Sequoia, Swiggy & Zomato, we're on a mission to revolutionise how food is experienced through tech, taste & innovation. About the Role: We're looking for an Analyst – People & Culture who is equal parts executor and thinker: someone who brings structure to our people processes, owns payroll and statutory compliance end-to-end, thrives on data, and is ready to grow into a trusted thought partner for People leadership. This is a dual-scope role. At its foundation, it requires rigour around payroll, statutory compliance (PF, PT, ESI, TDS), compensation analysis, and HR operations. What makes it distinctive is the expectation that you'll connect data to decisions — not just produce outputs, but bring a point of view to every people decision, from budget conversations to appraisal cycles. If you're detail-obsessed, seek context behind every task, and want to see the /"so what/" in every number — this role is for you. The Mindset We're Hiring For: Foresight over reactivity — you anticipate downstream effects, not just complete tasks Analytical first — comfortable with ambiguity; you look for patterns before drawing conclusions Context-seeking — you want to understand why something matters before investing in how Structured thinking — you build systems and templates that make recurring work scalable Startup-native — comfortable doing things for the first time, without a playbook Bias for ownership — you follow through without needing to be reminded What You'll Do: Payroll & Compensation Process monthly payroll end-to-end with 100% accuracy across employee types and geographies Coordinate with Finance for all payroll inputs: salaries, incentives, variable payouts, and deductions Handle Full & Final settlements, reimbursements, and off-cycle corrections Maintain payroll reconciliation records and support audit-readiness at all times Own the end-to-end increment and appraisal cycle — from data preparation and salary revision workings to letter generation and payroll integration Support compensation structuring for new hires and internal movements; maintain offer fitment templates and salary band hygiene HR Ops & Administration Support onboarding and exit processes with all compliance checks completed before Day 1 and last day Maintain employee records, leave data, and HRMS workflows across India and international geographies Be the go-to person for payroll, benefits, and statutory queries — respond within defined SLAs Identify process inefficiencies and propose improvements to existing HR workflows People Data & Analytics Build and maintain dashboards tracking headcount, attrition, tenure, attendance, and hiring metrics Generate monthly and quarterly people insights reports for HRBPs and leadership — with commentary, not just charts Proactively surface anomalies before they become leadership concerns Contribute to compensation benchmarking and workforce cost analysis; track actuals vs. budget and flag variances Act as a thought partner to People leadership on headcount decisions, cost modelling, and increment cycle planning Compliance & Documentation Ensure ongoing compliance with PF, ESI, PT, e-TDS, and Shops & Establishment Act across all registered entities Manage PF/PT filings end-to-end: challan preparation, upload, reconciliation, and employee-level ledger accuracy — zero tolerance for errors or delays Track regional labour law requirements for India and, where applicable, global locations Maintain structured digital HR documentation: policies, letters, agreements, and statutory filings Qualifications: MBA or postgraduate degree in HR, Finance, Analytics, or a related field; OR Bachelor's in Engineering/Finance with a certification in HR, Payroll, or Compensation & Benefits 2–4 years of experience in payroll, HR analytics, compliance, or a generalist HR role Knowledge of US or global payroll is an added advantage What We're Looking For: Hands-on experience with PF and PT filings — you've personally prepared challans, handled reconciliations, and managed filing timelines Has worked through at least one full increment or appraisal cycle Comfortable with people cost and budget analysis — can read a headcount plan, track actuals, and flag deviations early Proficiency in Google Sheets and Excel — pivot tables, lookups, and data modelling Familiarity with HRMS and payroll tools (Darwinbox, Keka, GreytHR, or equivalent) Detail-obsessed, process-driven, and data-oriented — you don't ship outputs without checking them twice Prior startup experience strongly preferred Strong written and verbal communication — your reports and recommendations go to leadership
