You're tired of being a pixel-pusher inside someone else's machine. You've spent years mastering Figma, building design systems, shipping real product—and yet every morning you open Jira to find tickets that were decided without you. Your designs go through four rounds of stakeholder review before they ever reach a user. You know you could move faster. You know you could own more. You just haven't found the right place yet. This is that place.Who We AreWhiskey Library is a bourbon mystery box subscription that delivers hand-selected craft bourbon to 4,000+ subscribers from a network of 400+ distilleries across America. We're not a tech company that happens to sell whiskey. We're bourbon obsessives who build with cutting-edge tools—and we need a designer who thinks the same way.Three values define how we work:Ownership over execution. You don't wait for a PM to hand you a spec. You identify the problem, design the solution, and see it through to launch.Speed over perfection. We ship, measure, and iterate. A good design live on Monday beats a perfect mockup still in review on Friday.AI as a multiplier. We don't just /"allow/" AI tools—we expect you to use them. Cursor, v0, Figma AI, Claude—whatever makes you 10x faster. If your current company is still debating whether AI is /"ready,/" you already know the answer. What You'll OwnYou are the design function. Not /"part of the design team/"—you are the design team. Every screen a subscriber touches, every conversion flow a new customer clicks through, every unboxing moment—that's your domain. Here's what that looks like in practice:Subscription e-commerce UX: Product pages, quiz funnels, cart/checkout flows, and subscription management interfaces that convert browsers into subscribers and keep them retained.Subscriber dashboard: Design the experience that makes 4,000+ members feel like insiders—order history, box previews, personalization controls, tasting notes, and account management.Conversion architecture: Map and design the full funnel from landing page to checkout. You'll use data to identify drop-off points and design experiments to fix them.Design system: Build and maintain the Whiskey Library component library in Figma—a system that scales as we grow from 4,000 to 40,000 subscribers.Complex problem solving: The mystery box model creates unique UX challenges—how do you build anticipation for a product the customer hasn't seen? How do you personalize recommendations from 400+ distilleries? These aren't landing page problems. These are product design problems.Your ToolkitWe run on Shopify + Recharge + Klaviyo. You'll design within and beyond these platforms. Our expectation is that you bring:Figma mastery — auto-layout, variables, component architecture, prototyping. This is your primary workspace.AI-native workflow — you actively use tools like Cursor, v0, Figma AI, or similar to accelerate your output. We want someone who ships 3x because they've integrated AI into how they think, not just how they prototype.E-commerce & subscription UX experience — you've designed for conversion, retention, and recurring revenue before. You understand why a cancellation flow is a design problem, not just a form.Product thinking — you can take a business problem (/"subscribers are churning after month 3/") and translate it into a design solution without waiting for someone to write a PRD.Why This Role Is DifferentYour designs directly drive revenue. This isn't a company where design is a /"support function./" When you redesign the product page, you'll see the conversion rate move. When you improve the subscription flow, you'll see churn drop. Your work has a P&L line. You ship fast. Small team. No design-by-committee. You'll go from insight to shipped design in days, not quarters. If you've been stuck in a big-company approval loop, you'll feel the difference immediately. You'll build a team. This role starts as the sole designer, but the trajectory is clear: as Whiskey Library scales, you'll build and lead the design team beneath you. This is a ground-floor leadership opportunity, not a senior IC ceiling.About You5+ years of product design experience, with at least 2 years in e-commerce or subscription businessesA portfolio that shows end-to-end product thinking—not just polished screens, but the problem framing, research, and iteration behind themDemonstrated use of AI tools in your design workflow (show us, don't just list them)Comfort working autonomously—you thrive with ownership, not hand-holdingBonus: Shopify/Liquid familiarity, basic front-end chops, or experience with DTC brands
