Senior Optical Engineer | olee.space | Pune Optical Engineering | Full-Time, On-Site | 5–10 Years Experience ⚠️ Before you apply: → B.E./B.Tech mandatory (M.Tech/M.Sc/Ph.D preferred) → Min: 5–10 years in optical system design for aerospace, defence, telecom, or laser systems → Pune on-site only — no remote, no hybrid → CTC : 12 LPA - 24 LPA (Depending on case to case basis) About olee.space We are building India's most advanced free-space optical communication (FSOC) and quantum-secure networking systems. About the Role You will own end-to-end optical system architecture from conceptual design through prototyping, space qualification, and flight delivery. This is a leadership-level IC role with significant influence on the core technology roadmap. Not a support function — you lead the optics. What You Will Do → Design and optimise FSOC optical systems — telescope assemblies (Cassegrain, off-axis, catadioptric), beam expanders, collimators, relay optics, and fibre coupling assemblies → Perform optical system modelling, ray tracing, diffraction analysis, and physical optics propagation using Zemax OpticStudio, CODE V, or equivalent → Develop link budget models for space-to-ground, ground-to-space, and inter-satellite optical links — accounting for atmospheric turbulence (Cn² profiles), pointing losses, and Doppler effects → Lead tolerance analysis, stray light analysis (FRED/TracePro), and thermo-elastic optical performance assessment for space-rated assemblies across orbital thermal environments → Define optical performance budgets — wavefront error, throughput, polarisation, scattered light, and alignment stability → Collaborate with opto-mechanical, adaptive optics, firmware, and systems engineering teams on integrated end-to-end performance → Guide optical testing campaigns — interferometry, wavefront measurement, MTF characterisation, far-field pattern analysis, and environmental testing (TVAC, vibration) → Mentor junior optical engineers and contribute to IP generation through patents and publications → Support qualification and acceptance testing of flight optical hardware per ECSS-E-ST-10-03C You Must Have → B.E./B.Tech (mandatory) with M.Tech/M.Sc/Ph.D preferred in Optics, Photonics, Applied Physics, or related → 5–10 years hands-on optical system design for aerospace, defence, telecom, or laser systems → Expert proficiency in Zemax OpticStudio or CODE V → Strong understanding of Gaussian beam optics, coherent detection, fibre coupling efficiency, adaptive optics principles, and atmospheric propagation effects → Experience with space-rated optical materials (Zerodur, fused silica, silicon carbide), coatings (AR, HR, dichroic), and precision optical assemblies → Familiarity with optical fabrication processes, diamond turning, polishing, and metrology (interferometry, profilometry) Nice to Have → Direct experience with laser communication terminal (LCT) optical design → Publications or patents in free-space optical communication, coherent optical links, or high-power beam delivery → Exposure to ESA ECSS or NASA optical standards for spaceflight hardware qualification → Experience with stray light modelling in FRED or TracePro for space optical instruments What You Get Nation-critical FSOC and quantum-secure work → Competitive pay + ESOPs → Your name on flight hardware orbiting Earth → Health insurance, R&D budget, conference sponsorship → Zero bureaucracy — talk to the CEO anytime Apply: | Subject: /"Senior Optical Engineer — (Your Name)/"
