A growth-stage climate infrastructure startup building and scaling electrolyzer systems for carbon removal and green hydrogen production. Having successfully deployed large-scale pilot systems, the company is now transitioning into commercial manufacturing and is establishing its production capability in India. The current phase focuses on industrialising electrolyzer hardware - driving design-for-manufacturing (DFM), cost reduction, supplier development, and scalable production of complex, multi-material electrochemical systems, with a strong focus on translating prototypes into manufacturable, scalable designs. This is a hands-on engineering and manufacturing build-out environment, particularly relevant and suited for candidates with experience in electrolyzer manufacturing, fuel cells, hydrogen systems, or mechanical design of chemical/process equipment. Candidates from adjacent industries with strong design-for-manufacturing experience are also encouraged to apply.Mechanical Design Engineer - Electrolyzer SystemsBased in Mumbai About the role This role focuses on designing and developing the physical hardware of next-generation electrolyzer systems, translating early-stage lab-scale prototypes into robust, scalable, and manufacturable products. You will work at the intersection of mechanical design and real-world deployment, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams - including chemical and electrochemical engineers - to bring complex systems from concept through to production. The position requires a hands-on, technically strong individual who can iterate rapidly, optimize designs for performance and cost, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, experimental environment with high levels of ambiguity. Responsibilities: Lead the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies for advanced hardware systems Translate early-stage prototypes into scalable, functional, and manufacturable designs Develop and refine prototypes through iterative design cycles, from proof-of-concept to production-ready solutions Optimize designs for performance, manufacturability (DFM), ease of assembly, and cost efficiency Conduct testing using experimental and simulation methods to validate performance under various conditions Analyse test results and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system design Prepare detailed engineering documentation and specifications for manufacturing and production Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure successful execution of designs Contribute to the development of next-generation systems through continuous innovation and improvement Requirements: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design of parts and assemblies Experience working with suppliers and manufacturers to bring designs into production Strong knowledge of materials, including metals, polymers, and common alloys Familiarity with a range of manufacturing and prototyping processes Proficiency in CAD and CAM tools Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and mechanics of materials Ability to operate hands-on in a fast-paced, iterative development environment Proactive, self-driven mindset with the ability to solve open-ended problems Nice-to-haves: Experience designing parts for chemical processes Experience with power electronics Modelling experience (FEA, CFD) Passion for carbon management solutions Comfort with working in cross-functional teams across jurisdictionsOnly shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
