The role owns low level infrastructure designs (LLDs) for initiatives, and curates and evolves the infrastructure architecture blueprint. The architect partners closely with the Arch’s Global Infrastructure function to define technology life cycles, standards, and dependencies. While primarily design and governance led, the role is hands on for proofs of concept (PoCs) and innovation spikes to de risk patterns and accelerate adoption. The Technical Architect collaborates with Architects, POIT teams, Security, and Infrastructure & Operations to ensure solutions are secure, reliable, scalable, and cost efficient, with nonfunctional requirements and technical debt priorities made explicit and managed. Key Tasks and Responsibilities:Produce low level infrastructure designs for initiatives (Azure and hybrid) covering compute, network, storage, identity, security, observability, disaster recovery, and cost controls; ensure traceability to high level designs and patterns. Maintain the infrastructure architecture blueprint (current/target states, standards, guardrails, reference patterns) with clear versioning and change control. Partner with Global Infrastructure to define and publish technology life cycle statuses (introduce/adopt/tolerate/retire), deprecation timelines, and migration paths. Ensure NFRs are explicit, testable, and integrated into backlogs with POIT teams; define validation criteria and success measures. Work closely with Domain/Solution Architects, POIT teams, Security, and Infrastructure & Operations to co design solutions, surface cross domain dependencies, and agree sequencing/mitigations. Provide design guidance during delivery, focusing on guardrails, reuse, and operational readiness (observability, backup/restore, DR runbooks). Maintain a visible technical debt register with owners and remediation plans; prioritise with product leadership and report status through agreed forums. Produce high quality design artefacts (LLDs, runbooks, decision records) and communicate complex topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience & Skills Requirements: Essential Significant experience as a Technical/Infrastructure Architect in enterprise scale environments. Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure: landing zones, governance (Policy, RBAC), identity (Entra ID), networking (vNETs, peering, Private Link, Firewalls, WAF), storage/compute, PaaS services, backup/DR, monitoring (Azure Monitor/Log Analytics). Strong networking foundation: routing, segmentation, DNS/DHCP/IPAM, VPN/ExpressRoute, load balancing, Zero Trust/segmentation concepts. Proven ability to create low level designs and govern delivery to standards, with clear documentation and decision records. Desirable Kubernetes/Containers (advantage): AKS cluster design, networking/ingress, image build and supply chain security, Helm, GitOps patterns, and container observability. Infrastructure as Code & automation: Terraform/Bicep, Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions, PowerShell; policy as code and compliance automation. Experience with cloud migration approaches (re host/re platform/re factor), hybrid connectivity, and legacy modernization. Familiarity with ITIL/operational processes and working in scaled Agile settings (e.g., participation in Architect Sync, PPE/Refinement events).
