The role involves improving legacy PHP systems, increasing test coverage, and building scalable, API-driven architectures—while actively using AI to accelerate development and improve code quality.This is a PHP-first role, where AI-driven development is expected in day-to-day engineering activities.Responsibilities:Core PHP / Laravel DevelopmentDesign, develop, and maintain scalable applications using PHP (Laravel as primary framework)Build clean, modular, and reusable backend components and servicesOptimize application performance, database queries, and backend processesAI-Driven EngineeringUse AI-assisted tools to generate, refactor, and optimize PHP and frontend codeLeverage AI to understand and modernize legacy PHP systems (e.g., PHP 5/7 → PHP 8, Laravel upgrades)Accelerate debugging, root cause analysis, and issue resolution using AIAPI & ArchitectureDesign and implement RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures using LaravelBreak down monolithic PHP applications into API-driven or microservices-based systemsEnsure high performance, scalability, and maintainability of backend servicesLegacy ModernizationUpgrade legacy stacks (e.g., older Laravel versions, procedural PHP codebases)Use AI to analyze existing codebases, plan migrations, and execute safe refactoringEnsure backward compatibility and minimal regression during upgradesTesting & Quality EngineeringWrite and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests (PHPUnit or similar)Use AI to increase test coverage and reduce dependency on manual QAEnsure high code quality through automated validation and testing strategiesFrontend CollaborationWork with Vue.js / Nuxt.js for frontend integrationCollaborate on API consumption, state management, and SPA architecturesDevOps & Workflow OptimizationImprove CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and development workflowsUse AI in code reviews, automation, and release processesContinuously optimize development velocity and reduce manual effortRequired Skills:5+ years of experience in PHP development (Laravel preferred)Strong expertise in Laravel framework, MVC architecture, and REST APIsExperience with modern frontend frameworks (Vue.js / Nuxt preferred)Hands-on experience with legacy PHP system modernizationStrong knowledge of MySQL or similar relational databasesExperience with API design, backend services, and scalable architecturesExperience with automated testing (PHPUnit, integration testing, etc.)Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.) in development workflowsStrong debugging, problem-solving, and system analysis skillsPreferred Skills:Exposure to Node.js (secondary backend)Experience with MongoDB or NoSQL databasesExperience with cloud platforms (Linode, AWS, etc.)Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerizationAI-Driven Development ExpectationsYou are expected to actively use AI tools to:Generate and optimize PHP/Laravel backend codeIncrease test coverage across legacy and new systemsAnalyze and understand large PHP codebases quicklyAccelerate Laravel upgrades and dependency modernizationDebug issues and perform root cause analysis efficientlyImprove documentation and onboarding processesSuccess in this role means delivering faster, scalable, and high-quality PHP applications by effectively leveraging AI in everyday development.
