Senior Engineer – Communications (Autonomous Systems)Bangalore | Full-Time | 5–8 Years ExperienceRole OverviewWe are looking for a Senior Communications Engineer to design and build robust, multimodal communication systems for autonomous platforms operating across challenging environments.In this role, you will architect end-to-end communication infrastructure spanning underwater acoustic channels to satellite and RF systems, ensuring reliable connectivity for mission-critical operations. You will work across the full stack — from physical layer signal behavior to network protocols and system integration — enabling seamless data exchange, command, and control across dynamic operating conditions.This is a high-impact role where you will solve complex problems in acoustic communication, RF systems, and real-time networking, while defining the communication backbone for next-generation autonomous systems.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement multimodal communication systems (acoustic, RF, satellite, cellular, optical)Architect seamless handoff between communication modes (underwater to surface)Develop and optimize underwater acoustic communication systemsDesign reliable communication links with link budgets, error correction, and adaptive modulationConduct performance testing and validation in real-world marine environmentsOptimize network protocols, bandwidth usage, and QoS for mission-critical systemsImplement data compression and prioritization strategies for low-bandwidth environmentsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system-level integrationDefine communication APIs, data formats, and latency requirementsRequired QualificationsBachelor’s/Master’s in Electronics, Telecommunications, Signal Processing, or related field5+ years of experience in embedded communication systemsStrong experience with network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP)Proficiency in C++ with experience in real-time systemsExperience with RF communication systems (satellite, radio, cellular)Understanding of acoustic communication and signal processingExperience with network protocol stacks and embedded systemsFamiliarity with ROS2, DDS, and middleware communicationPreferred QualificationsExperience with autonomous systems (AUV/UAV/ASV/AGV)Knowledge of underwater acoustic propagation and modelingExperience with acoustic modems (EvoLogics, Sonardyne, Teledyne, etc.)Experience with satellite communication systems (LEO/GEO – Starlink, etc.)Background in FPGA or Software Defined Radio (SDR)Familiarity with secure communication protocols / defense standardsExperience with field testing in harsh environmentsWhy Join UsSolve one of the hardest problems in engineering: reliable underwater communicationWork on mission-critical systems with real-world impactOwn and architect end-to-end communication systemsOpportunity to grow into a technical leadership roleCompetitive compensation + health insurance
