This is a hands-on, operations-focused role, with PostgreSQL administration as the primary responsibility. The ideal candidate will bring strong production experience with PostgreSQL, exposure to at least one other enterprise database platform such as SQL Server and/or Oracle, and hands-on experience with cloud-native database services on AWS and Azure.Key.ResponsibilitiesPostgreSQL Administration & OperationsOwn day-to-day administration of PostgreSQL databases across development, test, staging, and production environmentsInstall, configure, upgrade, and patch PostgreSQL databases in self-managed and managed service environmentsMonitor and tune database performance including query optimization, indexing strategies, and resource utilizationManage backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high availability configurationsTroubleshoot database issues related to performance, locking, replication, connectivity, and data integrityImplement and enforce database security best practices including access controls, encryption, and auditingCloud-Native Database Services (AWS & Azure)Hands-on administration of PostgreSQL on AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Azure Database for PostgreSQLConfigure and manage automated backups, read replicas, scaling, multi-AZ, and high availability featuresSupport database modernization and on premises to cloud migration initiativesCollaborate with cloud and application teams to design scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient database architecturesSupport integration scenarios involving relational and selective non-relational data stores, with PostgreSQL as the primary system of recordCross-Database & Platform ExposureProvide operational support and working knowledge of SQL Server and/or Oracle Database as secondary platformsParticipate in database migration, consolidation, and coexistence initiativesAssist application and architecture teams with database selection and optimization decisionsOperational Excellence & CollaborationCreate and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentationParticipate in on-call rotations, incident management, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviewsWork closely with application, DevOps, cloud, and security teams to ensure smooth operationsSupport capacity planning, performance benchmarking, and proactive risk mitigationRequired Skills & Experience6–8 years of overall DBA experience with PostgreSQL as the primary database platformStrong hands-on experience managing PostgreSQL in production environmentsDeep understanding of PostgreSQL internals including MVCC, WAL, vacuuming, replication, and locking behaviorExperience with backup, recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance tuningWorking knowledge of SQL Server and/or Oracle DatabaseStrong SQL skills with the ability to analyze and optimize complex queriesCloud & Platform ExperienceHands-on experience with AWS RDS / Aurora PostgreSQL and Azure Database for PostgreSQLUnderstanding of cloud constructs such as scaling, monitoring, security, and cost optimizationExperience supporting hybrid or multi-cloud database environmentsNice to Have (Value-Add Skills)Linux administration experience for database hosting and troubleshootingExposure to Infrastructure as Code tools such as TerraformFamiliarity with monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, or equivalentExperience working with DevOps or SRE teams
