Job Title: Process Research ScientistExperience: 6–10 YearsFunction: Process R&D / Chemical DevelopmentIndustry Preference: CDMO / Pharma / Specialty ChemicalsRole PurposeTo design, develop, and optimize scalable chemical processes through hands-on laboratory experimentation (up to 100 g scale), ensuring robustness, safety, and efficiency for downstream scale-up and manufacturing.Key ResponsibilitiesExecute bench-scale synthesis (mg to ~100 g scale) for route scouting, optimization, and proof of conceptDesign and develop robust, scalable, and cost-effective synthetic routes for target moleculesConduct process optimization (yield, impurity control, cycle time, solvent efficiency)Identify and mitigate process risks (thermal hazards, impurity formation, scalability issues)Generate and interpret analytical data (HPLC, GC, NMR, LC-MS) to support process decisionsPrepare process development reports, batch records, and technology transfer documentsSupport scale-up activities in pilot plant / kilo lab and ensure smooth tech transferCollaborate cross-functionally with analytical, scale-up, production, and quality teamsEnsure compliance with EHS, GMP (where applicable), and data integrity standardsDesired Skills & CompetenciesTechnical SkillsStrong expertise in organic synthesis and reaction mechanismsHands-on experience in bench-scale reactions up to 100 g scaleProficiency in process optimization and route scoutingWorking knowledge of scale-up principles and chemical engineering basicsFamiliarity with impurity profiling and control strategiesGood understanding of crystallization, work-up, and isolation techniquesAnalytical & Data SkillsStrong ability to interpret analytical data (HPLC, GC, NMR, LC-MS)Data-driven decision making and documentation rigorBehavioral SkillsHands-on, detail-oriented with strong problem-solving mindsetAbility to work in fast-paced, project-driven environments (typical of CDMOs)Strong collaboration and communication skillsHigh level of ownership and accountabilityEducational QualificationPh.D. / M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry / Process Chemistry or related discipline
