In this role you will be responsible for the design, deployment, optimisation, and troubleshooting of signalling infrastructure across 2G, 3G, 4G, and converged network environments. You will serve as a subject matter expert for SS7-over-IP migration, Diameter-based policy and charging architectures, and CAMEL-based intelligent network services.Key ResponsibilitiesSIGTRAN (SS7 over IP)Design, configure, and maintain SIGTRAN protocol stacks (M2UA, M2PA, M3UA, SUA) across Signaling Gateways (SGs), Signalling Transfer Points (STPs), and application servers.Lead SS7-to-IP migration projects, ensuring seamless interworking between legacy TDM/SS7 nodes and IP-based signalling endpoints via SCTP associations.Perform capacity planning and traffic engineering for SCTP links, association failover, and multi-homing configurations.Troubleshoot MTP3, SCCP, TCAP, ISUP, and MAP/CAP message flows over SIGTRAN bearers using protocol analysers (Wireshark, Tektronix, JDSU/Viavi).Define and enforce signalling security policies including SCTP heartbeat tuning, IPsec for signaling transport, and DDoS mitigation for the signalling plane.Develop and maintain Point Code allocation schemes, Global Title Translation (GTT) tables, and routing configurations for national and international interconnections.Diameter ProtocolArchitect and deploy Diameter signaling infrastructure including Diameter Routing Agents (DRA), Diameter Edge Agents (DEA), and Diameter Relay/Proxy nodes.Implement and optimize Diameter applications: S6a/S6d (HSS-MME), S9 (roaming policy), Gx (PCRF-PCEF policy control), Gy/Ro (online charging), Rx (QoS/AF), Sy (spending limits), and Sh (AS-HSS).Design Diameter peer routing topologies, realm-based routing tables, and failover strategies for multi-vendor, geo-redundant deployments.Lead Diameter interconnect and IPX/GRX roaming partner onboarding, including CER/CEA negotiation, AVP compatibility testing, and end-to-end signaling validation.Perform load testing, congestion management, and overload control (DOIC) for Diameter nodes under high-throughput conditions.Drive migration strategies from MAP/SS7-based HLR to Diameter-based HSS/UDR for VoLTE, VoWiFi, and 5G-ready subscriber data management.CAMEL (Customised Applications for Mobile Networks Enhanced Logic)Design, deploy, and maintain CAMEL Phase 1–4 services on Service Control Points (SCPs), gsmSCF, and Intelligent Network (IN) platforms.Develop and optimise CAMEL Service Logic (CSL) for prepaid charging, call screening, call redirection, number translation, and value-added services (VAS).Configure and troubleshoot CAP (CAMEL Application Part) dialogues over TCAP/SCCP, including InitialDP, Connect, Continue, ApplyCharging, and FurnishChargingInformation operations.Manage CAMEL trigger detection points (TDPs) across MSC/GMSC, SGSN, and VoLTE TAS for voice, SMS, and data service control.Support IN-to-SDP/OCS migration, integrating legacy CAMEL prepaid services with modern online charging and policy platforms.Collaborate with Product and Revenue Assurance teams to design CAMEL-based promotional offers, roaming steering, and fraud-prevention triggers.Cross-Functional / GeneralAct as Level 3/4 escalation point for complex signaling issues spanning SIGTRAN, Diameter, and CAMEL domains.Produce and maintain network architecture documentation, signaling flow diagrams, HLD/LLD, and MOPs for signaling infrastructure changes.Mentor junior engineers and conduct knowledge-transfer sessions on telecom signaling protocols and troubleshooting methodologies.Participate in vendor evaluations, RFP/RFI processes, and acceptance testing for signaling platform upgrades and new deployments.Ensure regulatory and standards compliance (3GPP, ITU-T, GSMA) across all signaling domains.Required QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.8+ years of hands-on experience in telecom core network engineering with a focus on signaling protocols.Expert-level knowledge of SS7 protocol stack (MTP1–3, SCCP, TCAP, ISUP, MAP) and SIGTRAN adaptation layers (M2UA, M2PA, M3UA, SUA over SCTP).Strong working knowledge of Diameter base protocol (RFC 6733) and key Diameter applications (S6a, Gx, Gy/Ro, Rx, Sh, S9, Sy).Proven experience with CAMEL Phases 1–4, CAP protocol, SCP/gsmSCF platforms, and Intelligent Network architecture.Proficiency with protocol analysis tools: Wireshark (with SS7/Diameter dissectors), Tektronix, Viavi/JDSU, or Netscout.Hands-on experience with signaling products from major vendors such as Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Oracle (Tekelec), Mavenir, or Dialogic.Strong understanding of 3GPP network architecture across 2G/3G/4G (MSC, HLR, HSS, MME, PCRF, OCS, SGSN, GGSN, PGW).Experience with Linux/Unix environments, scripting (Bash, Python, Perl) for log analysis and automation of signaling tasks.Preferred QualificationsExperience with 5G signaling (SBI/HTTP2, NRF, SCP) and interworking between Diameter and 5G Service-Based Architecture.Familiarity with SIP/IMS signaling and VoLTE/VoWiFi call flows in conjunction with CAMEL and Diameter.Knowledge of signaling firewalls, SS7/Diameter security (SMS home-routing, CAT, anti-fraud frameworks per GSMA FS.11/FS.19).Certifications such as CCIE (Service Provider), Nokia SRC/NRS, Ericsson Certified, or equivalent vendor credentials.Experience with cloud-native or containerized signaling platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, NFV/SDN environments).Prior involvement in national number portability (MNP), ENUM, or interconnect billing systems.Working knowledge of charging and billing integration (CDR/EDR generation, mediation, OCS/OFCS interfaces).
