The Opportunity PCCI is assembling a site team for a QA/QC consultancy assignment on a Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dam under construction in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir. This is an NHPC hydropower project being executed by a leading EPC contractor, with an internationally renowned design consultancy and European RCC dam specialists leading the design effort. This is one of the few RCC dams currently under construction in India. You will work directly under the technical guidance of PCCI's Managing Director, Mr. A.K. Sthapak, a recognised authority in concrete technology with 40+ years of experience and a Lifetime Achievement awardee of the Indian Concrete Institute. You will also collaborate with international RCC dam experts engaged by the project's design consultant. This is a rare convergence of high-stakes RCC work, world-class mentorship, and international exposure. Role As Team Leader, you will lead PCCI's on-site QA/QC operations for RCC and conventional concrete (CVC) placement. You will be responsible for 24x7 quality monitoring, coordination with the design consultant's RCC experts, and reporting to PCCI's Managing Director. Responsibilities - Lead day-to-day QA/QC operations for RCC and CVC dam concreting on site - Monitor the full RCC placement cycle: aggregate production, batching, transportation, spreading, compaction, curing, surface preparation, and joint treatment - Classify lift joints (hot/warm/cold) using maturity monitoring and ensure correct treatment protocols, including bedding mortar application - Review and verify material approvals, test reports, method statements, and inspection records submitted by the EPC contractor - Prepare and submit monthly quality reports and progress reports - Coordinate with international RCC dam experts engaged by the design consultant - Ensure compliance with technical specifications, relevant ICOLD Bulletins, IS/BIS codes, ACI/ASTM standards, and project-specific requirements - Supervise and mentor the QC Engineer deployed alongside you - Ensure readiness of plants and equipment required for RCC dam construction prior to and during placement - Flag non-conformances, recommend corrective actions, and document resolution Requirements - Minimum 5 years of experience in RCC dam construction, with at least one completed or ongoing RCC dam project - Strong working knowledge of RCC mix design, placement methods, joint treatment, GEVR (Grout Enriched Vibratable RCC), and compaction QC - Experience with concrete testing (compressive strength, Vebe consistency, density, moisture content, nuclear density gauge, core extraction and evaluation) - Familiarity with ICOLD Bulletins (particularly 126 and 177), ACI 207.5R, and relevant IS/ASTM standards for mass concrete - Ability to prepare clear, structured quality reports - Willingness to work on a remote site with demanding schedules Preferred • Experience on hydroelectric dam projects • Exposure to thermal control planning and monitoring for mass concrete • Experience coordinating with international design consultants or experts • Familiarity with CVC placement for dam appurtenant structures (intake, spillway, galleries) Compensation Competitive, commensurate with experience.
