Job Title - Head of Engineering - Solar Location - Mohali, Punjab Experience 18+ years in Renewable Energy Engineering (Utility-scale Solar & Hybrid Projects) Qualification B.Tech / B.E. in Electrical / Instrumentation / Electronics / Energy Engineering (Master’s degree preferred) Role Overview The Head of Engineering – Solar Projects will lead end-to-end engineering for large-scale land-based (ground-mounted) solar power plants, including concept development, FEED, detailed engineering, cost optimization, power evacuation, commissioning support, and digital transformation. The role requires strong leadership across DC, AC, civil & structural, power evacuation, hybrid systems, BESS, and grid interconnection, with accountability for LCoE optimization, design excellence, and technology adoption. Key Responsibilities 1. Engineering Leadership & Strategy - Lead and manage end-to-end engineering for utility-scale solar projects (100 MW to multi-GW scale). - Define engineering strategy, design standards, SOPs, specifications, and best practices. - Head and mentor multidisciplinary teams (DC, AC, Civil, Structural, Power Evacuation, BESS). - Act as the technical authority for all land-based solar engineering decisions. 2. Front-End & Detailed Engineering - Lead concept design, feasibility studies, FEED, and detailed engineering. 1. Oversee preparation and review of: Plant layouts, SLDs, GAs 2. PV module & inverter selection 3. DC/AC sizing, cable schedules, loss calculations 4. Earthing, lightning protection, illumination systems 5. Civil & structural designs (foundations, roads, drainage) 6. Ensure engineering compliance with IEC, IS, IEEE, CEA, DISCOM & utility standards. 3. Cost Optimization & Financial Engineering - Drive LCoE and Capex optimization through design innovation and technology selection. - Perform and review energy yield assessments using PVsyst / SAM. - Support financial models including LCoE, IRR, NPV, LCoS. - Prepare engineering budgets and obtain management approvals. 4. Power Evacuation & Grid Integration 1. Lead engineering of power evacuation systems including: Pooling substations (33kV to 765kV) 2. Transmission lines (132kV, 220kV, 400kV, 765kV) 3. Coordinate with DISCOMs, TRANSCOs, PGCIL, NTPC, SLDCs for approvals and grid connectivity. 4. Ensure timely statutory clearances and technical compliance. 5. Hybrid, BESS & Emerging Technologies - Lead engineering for Hybrid Power Plants (Solar + Wind + BESS). - Oversee battery sizing, technology evaluation, and optimization. - Support integration of Green Hydrogen systems with solar and storage. - Evaluate and adopt new technologies to enhance performance and reliability. 6. Project Support & Execution Interface - Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and handover. - Resolve site-level engineering challenges and design deviations. - Support quality assurance, inspections, and performance validation. 7. Digital Transformation & Innovation 1. Lead development and deployment of: Design monitoring platforms 2. Construction monitoring & drone-based systems 3. Energy analytics & asset digitization platforms 4. Evaluate and onboard advanced digital tools (PVcase, SenseHawk, Solar Labs, etc.). 5. Drive R&D initiatives, POCs, and pilot projects. 8. Stakeholder & Management Interface - Present engineering proposals, budgets, and progress to senior management & board. - Support pre-bid & post-bid engineering, technical due diligence, and M&A evaluations. - Collaborate with EPC, OEMs, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
