About Rustlines: Rustlines is India’s first denim house built around handcrafted innovation, small-batch production, and design-led experimentation. Every product is developed with intent, from fabric selection to wash processes to final detailing. As we scale our collections and deepen our design language, we’re looking for a full-time Fashion Designer who understands fabric, sourcing, and real-world production, and can take ownership from concept to final sample. Role Overview: As a Fashion Designer at Rustlines, you will work closely with the founders and production team to design, develop, and execute apparel across denim, jackets, cargos, co-ord sets, and experimental drops. This role is for someone who knows fashion beyond sketches, someone who understands how fabric behaves, how sourcing works, and how good design translates into wearable, sellable products. Key Responsibilities: 1) Design & Product Development - Conceptualize and design new products, collections, and limited-edition drops - Create design sketches, moodboards, colour stories, and detailing concepts - Develop silhouettes, fits, washes, trims, and construction details - Translate creative ideas into production-ready designs 2) Fabric & Material Expertise - Work closely with denim, knits, and woven fabrics - Evaluate GSM, fabric construction, stretch properties, durability, and wash compatibility - Select appropriate fabrics based on design intent, comfort, and longevity 3) Sourcing & Vendor Coordination - Source fabrics, trims, hardware, and accessories from vendors and mills - Coordinate with suppliers on availability, MOQs, lead times, and costing - Maintain fabric libraries, swatches, and sourcing documentation 4) Sampling & Production Execution - Coordinate with tailors, artisans, and wash houses during sampling - Oversee fittings, spec corrections, and design refinements - Ensure final samples meet Rustlines’ standards for fit, finish, and quality - Support bulk production handover when required 5) Research & Trend Direction - Research global denim trends, streetwear movements, and fabrication innovations - Study competitor products, construction techniques, and wash processes - Translate trend insights into commercially viable design directions 6) Studio & Shoot Support - Maintain organized sample racks, trims, and design archives - Assist during shoots, styling, and product prep when required - Collaborate with the brand and marketing teams for design-led storytelling What we are looking for: - Proven experience as a Fashion Designer (academic + practical) - Strong understanding of fabrics, garment construction, and sourcing - Hands-on experience with apparel development - Ability to manage design from concept to sample - Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop (or equivalent tools) - Strong attention to detail and execution quality - Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup-style environment - Someone who treats design as a craft, not just a role What you will get: - Ownership over real products and collections - Direct collaboration with founders and production teams - Opportunity to shape a growing Indian denim brand - Creative freedom with accountability - Competitive compensation (based on experience)
