Mandarin Cantonese Video Interpreter Universal Language Service, Inc. is hiring an independent contractor to provide on‑demand medical video remote interpreting sessions for our limited English proficient (LEP) community and practitioners across healthcare, government, community, education, and other industries.Position Overview This remote, independent contractor role requires handling audio and video calls, capturing company provided data, and adapting to new technologies while maintaining interpreter ethical standards and cultural sensitivity.Job FunctionsProvide effective video and audio interpreting sessions in a professional manner.Capture company provided data during interpreting sessions when required.Adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.Respect LEP clients, culture, dialect, and beliefs.Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions.Speak clearly, with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and proper expressions in both languages.Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.QualificationsFluent in both source (Mandarin, Cantonese) and target (English) languages with strong verbal communication skills.Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills.Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or national certification.Extensive knowledge of interpreter ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).-landlord-HIPAA‑compliant work environment and setting.Minimum age 18 years.Preferred QualificationsAbility to read and write in the requested languages.Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI or DSHS.Accredited medical interpreting training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross‑Cultural training, 40‑hour accredited medical courses).Technical RequirementsHigh‑speed internet connection (cable or fiber optic services preferred).HIPAA‑compliant workspace with four walls and a door that locks.Computer with a direct connection to the modem.Home office with a blue or green backdrop.Workspace quiet, distraction‑free from people, pets, or outside noise.Seniority Level Entry levelEmployment Type Full‑timeJob Function Information TechnologyIndustries Translation and LocalizationLocation3> Remote – work from home in ChinaJob Type Independent ContractorReferral Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at Universal Language Service, Inc. by 2x#J-18808-Ljbffr
