Job Title: Functional Safety Engineer Location: Mexico City Duration: Long Term Job Description & Skill Requirement: • General Motors is seeking a highly motivated Functional Safety Engineer with hardware experience to join its growing team focused on delivering industry-leading automotive solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the functional safety of electronic hardware systems in compliance with ISO 26262 standards throughout the vehicle development lifecycle. This position requires deep knowledge of automotive systems, safety analysis techniques, and hands-on hardware experience. Key Responsibilities: Lead and support functional safety activities for electronic hardware systems in alignment with ISO 26262 (Parts 5, 8, 9, and 11). Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, hardware, and software engineering to define and implement safety concepts. Perform hardware safety analyses such as FMEDA, FTA, and DFA. Support the development and review of safety requirements at system, hardware, and component levels. Assist in the creation of safety plans, safety cases, and confirmation measures. Participate in safety assessments, audits, and reviews. Work closely with GM internal teams and suppliers to ensure compliance with safety standards and project milestones. Ensure traceability of safety requirements across design and verification artifacts. Provide mentorship and guidance on functional safety best practices and standards. Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. 3–8 years of experience in functional safety engineering , particularly within hardware development for the automotive industry. Strong understanding and application of ISO 26262 , especially Part 5 (Product development at the hardware level). Proficiency in hardware design, circuit analysis, and safety-critical component evaluation. Experience with safety analysis tools such as Medini Analyze , Ansys , FTA tools , or equivalent. Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet). Knowledge of GM's safety development processes is a plus. Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills. Preferred Skills: Functional Safety Certification (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer) Experience working on electrification projects (e.g., EVs, power electronics) Familiarity with ASPICE and other automotive quality standards Exposure to embedded software safety concepts
