Job OverviewWe have an exciting opportunity to join Sheffield Health and Social Care in the stroke psychology services based in Rotherham. You will be joining well-established, valued services, working with multidisciplinary teams in providing high quality, evidence-based care to stroke survivors across the pathway. The role will be varied and dynamic, supporting the development of a range of clinical psychologist skills as well as specialist stroke skills and knowledge. The post will cover Rotherham services working as part of a stroke psychology team. This post offers great opportunities for working with other professionals within Rotherham and the wider region, including inputting into national and regional working groups. As part of the Clinical Health psychology team, you will have access to strong psychology support and leadership both locally and regionally. Working with other stroke psychologists will provide great opportunities for support, supervision, and leadership. We support training and development and there may be opportunities in postgraduate clinical neuropsychology training and other relevant areas. Main Duties of the JobTo provide a clinical psychology service to stroke survivors and their families in a range of settings (inpatient, community inpatient rehabilitation units, homes or other community settings) requiring frequent travel. To work collaboratively with the stroke MDT in the delivery of a stepped model of care for both cognitive and emotional difficulties post-stroke, involving significant role in consultation, advice, training, and supervision. To offer supervision to other roles (including Trainee Psychologists) appropriate to banding. To lead on different service development projects and developments, including work in the pathway towards the new National Stroke Service model. Detailed Job Description and Main ResponsibilitiesClinicalTo provide highly specialist psychological assessments of service users referred to the Rotherham Stroke Service. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a service user's problems. To work on a daily basis in face-to-face individual, family, and/or group therapy settings with service users presenting with highly complex and distressing psychological problems. To be responsible for implementing a range of specialist psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of service users. To provide highly specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner regarding the assessment, formulation, and treatment plans of service users. Teaching, Training and SupervisionTo receive regular clinical professional supervision. To provide supervision to other MDT staff's psychological work, as appropriate. To provide clinical supervision to less experienced qualified clinical psychologists. To contribute to the pre- and post-qualification teaching of clinical psychology. To provide highly specialised advice, consultation, and training to staff working with the service user group. Management, Recruitment, Policy, Organisational and Service DevelopmentTo contribute to the development, evaluation, and monitoring of aspects of the team's clinical practice. To advise both service and professional management on psychological and/or organisational matters. To manage waiting lists within the team and participate as a senior clinician in the allocation of cases. To implement policies and propose changes to working practices/procedures. Research and Service EvaluationTo utilise theory, evidence-based literature, and research to support evidence-based practice. To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff. To supervise DClinPsy service evaluation and/or research projects. To disseminate research findings through publications and conference presentations. Working EnvironmentTo provide psychological care to service users and their carers in a wide range of settings. The job role will involve working alone in situations where there may be some risk of verbal or physical aggression. Training and QualificationsPost-graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology. Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist. Formal training in supervision of other psychologists. ExperienceSignificant experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of service users. Experience of working therapeutically with stroke patients. OtherAbility to plan, prioritise and organise own workload. Ability to teach and train others.
