Job overviewYour main role will be to cover the Phlebotomy service at the John Radcliffe with occasional shifts throughout the trust providing a patient-friendly service as required, some weekends may be part of your rota. Phlebotomists will be expected to provide a helpful and professional service to patients and healthcare staff within the Trust. We are looking for individuals with the skill and flexibility to support our services on the Outpatients and Trust wards and on occasions the Mobile service. The individual will be responsible for ensuring that the blood specimens are taken in a manner that does not cause undue anxiety to the patient and that laboratories are provided with timely, high-quality blood specimens taken in tubes that are appropriate for the tests requested. Main duties of the jobWe are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our phlebotomy team. Two years phlebotomy experience is essential. This will be mainly based at the JR but on occasions may be asked to work at other sites. On occasions this post will require the member of staff to travel to other hospital sites within Oxfordshire. The applicant must have a full driving license and access to a suitable vehicle. Skills/Responsibilities: To take venous bloods safely from patients on the wards and outpatient departments. To check the identity of the patient, ensure that any special instructions have been followed (e.g. period of fasting) and to gain patients' consent to proceed. To take venous blood of good quality using aseptic techniques and ensuring minimum of pain and discomfort to the patient. To make sure samples arrive at the labs safely. To work in an efficient manner to ensure the phlebotomy work is completed in the best practical time. To obtain and keep up to date with all learning.
