Job DetailsWe have an exciting opportunity at our Preston Service Centre for a Fleet and Transport Manager. Reporting to the Transport Regional General Manager you will be part of the senior management team within the site. You will be responsible for Driver Team Managers and a team of 200+ drivers, plus agency staff at peak, providing leadership and direction to ensure maintenance of productivity and service KPIs of the transport department. As a forward thinking individual you will also seek to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and be able to guide people through change at this exciting time for our business. Job Purpose: The Fleet and Transport Manager role is responsible for the efficient operation of transport in their Service Centre (Preston). Their highest priority is to ensure a safe, legal transport function, that continues to deliver exceptional customer service. This would also include, but not be limited to, driving improvements in standardisation of process, service performance, cost-efficiency, optimisation of routes, lanes and flows, management of legal compliance requirements, whilst also working in collaboration with Warehouse operations and colleagues. Principle Accountabilities:Ensure the highest standards of safety for individual staff are developed, implemented, and maintained, within the framework of company-wide Target Zero H&S policies. Ensure all operating standards are achieved and maintained through compliance to company policies and procedures and adherence to all relevant legislation. Develop & support individual people growth through succession planning & PDP management, and ensure sites are structured and staffed correctly. Ensure that transport and labour costs fall within budget and monitor through the implementation of robust control mechanisms. Manage a temperature-controlled fleet of vans and LGVs, ensuring the highest levels of compliance throughout the complete delivery cycle. Work with internal & external customers to maintain & achieve service across the network, to include projects and sustainability programmes that form part of the company’s future standards & requirements. Implement and maintain appropriate communication channels across the Network to involve all parties and ensure communication links are developed across departments within all SC sites. Identify, monitor and manage through Network best practice, systemic & operational improvements to support and deliver an improved service to internal & external customers. All management roles within the Service Centre will need to participate in a weekend working rota. An agreed element of flexibility may be required. Knowledge, Skills and Experience required: Previous experience of managing transport operations in a fast-paced delivery environment. Experience of Temperature Controlled Transport Operations (desirable). Experience of managing large teams including some at remote locations. Experience in managing mixed fleets. Supplying Partner - Contract Management Experience. Experience of working in a highly customer-focused environment. Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is essential for this role.
