Head of Technical Yorkshire - HybridSalary is dependent on experience + packageFourblue have teamed up with a ICP who deliver turnkey utility infrastructure across the UK. They specialise in high-voltage electrical connections up to 132kV, serving sectors such as residential, commercial, renewables, and EV. They are now seeking a Head of Technical to join their growing team.This is an opportunity for someone with deep technical expertise and strong leadership skills to manage a team of designers, oversee the delivery of complex 11kV to 132kV projects, and play a key strategic role in driving the business forward.Responsibilities of the Head of Technical:Leading the design and technical function of the business, overseeing the full lifecycle of electrical infrastructure projects from concept to energisationManaging and mentoring a team of designers working across 11kV, 33kV, and 132kV connections, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance, and efficiencyTaking full responsibility for design assurance and sign-off, ensuring all work meets DNO/IDNO and regulatory requirementsActing as the senior technical authority across all projects, supporting both internal and external stakeholders with expert guidance and design leadershipWorking closely with project managers, commercial teams, and clients to ensure design outputs align with delivery timelines, budgets, and operational needsOverseeing the preparation and submission of designs for contestable and non-contestable works, including cable routing, substation layouts, switchgear, protection schemes, and earthingBuilding strong working relationships with DNOs and IDNOs to streamline approvals and technical collaborationSupporting the tendering process by reviewing specifications, contributing to technical submissions, and advising on feasibility and riskDriving the development and implementation of best practices, design standards, and internal processes to improve quality and efficiencyStaying up to date with industry regulations, innovation, and technology that can improve project outcomes or reduce delivery riskChampioning a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across the departmentCriteria of the Head of Technical:A strong background in electrical infrastructure design, ideally from an ICP, DNO or IDNOExperience with 11kV, 33kV and 132kV design and deliveryQualified to sign off designs and act as the lead technical authorityExperience in managing and developing engineering teamsCommercial awareness and a passion for helping the business grow through technical excellenceConfident, collaborative, and quality-driveThis is a unique opportunity to step into a senior technical leadership role, if you're an experienced designer ready to lead and make an impact, wed love to hear from you.
