Consultant Ophthalmologist - Medical Retina at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust We are offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team as aConsultant Ophthalmologist - Medical Retina . The role involves supporting and developing our medical retina services, including macular, diabetic retinopathy, and virtual imaging, with opportunities to explore areas like uveitis. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in clinical trials.The position is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne, with clinics and operations at outreach sites. Routine cataract surgeries are performed at the Newcastle Westgate Cataract Centre, one mile from the RVI. The department offers a wide range of specialties.Responsibilities include:Providing clinical expertise in line with the job plan, including specialist medical retina work and laser treatments.Managing patients under your care, including those seen by your team.Collaborating with the department and managing referrals.Reviewing virtual imaging on medical retina patients and participating in general clinics or eye emergency sessions.Participating in the ophthalmology consultant on-call rota for emergencies and triaging referrals.Maintaining up-to-date ophthalmic practice and adhering to GMC guidelines.Additional information: The department oversees over 6,500 patient contacts daily across various sites, delivering cutting-edge healthcare and fostering innovation.
