Location - Leeds Hybrid working The Division The overarching objective of any regulatory body is to protect the public. When a complaint is made against a regulated professional, the relevant regulatory body is responsible for conducting an investigation into the allegations. If necessary, the case is then heard by a panel of adjudicators, who determine whether the individual can meet their professional standards, i.e., assessing their fitness to practice.Our clients trust us to conduct fitness to practice investigations on their behalf. We have worked on some of the most complex and high-profile cases faced by regulatory bodies, and we are proud to be the firm of choice for organizations that work to make a difference.The Role and Responsibilities Our paralegals play an integral part in the fitness to practice investigations we conduct, managing their own caseload under the supervision of a lawyer. The role includes a high level of responsibility and exposure to the legal process and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to kick-start their legal career.Supervision, support, and relevant training will be provided, although the successful applicant will also be encouraged, where appropriate, to use their own initiative and demonstrate a positive, can-do approach to their work. Paralegals are encouraged and supported to continue their early career development with the firm through bespoke training programs and exclusive access to training contracts.The main responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:Conducting witness interviews and drafting witness statementsDrafting instructions to counsel and expertsAssisting lawyers in drafting advice to the client on evidence, case prospects, and case progressionEvidence reviews and bundle preparation, including identifying disclosable and unused materialSupporting stakeholders through the fitness to practice process, including supporting vulnerable witnesses and those with additional support needsLiaising with clients, witnesses, experts, counsel, and other stakeholdersManaging own caseload and effectively meeting internal and external deadlinesDrafting general correspondence and legal documentsAttending conferences and hearingsUndertaking researchSkills and Experience Candidates should have:At least a 2:1 undergraduate law degree or equivalentThe ability to adhere to and manage strict deadlines and work toward a chargeable hours targetExcellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, alongside strong organizational skills with high attention to detailConfidence and a person-centered approachExcellent IT skillsAn LPC or BVC qualification (desirable, but not essential)At least 6 months experience in a professional environment (desirable, but not essential)Capsticks is an inclusive employer At Capsticks, we value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive working environment where everyone can be themselves and reach their full potential.
