GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Performs intermediate skilled clerical work involving assisting in the preparation and/or maintenance of fiscal, utility or related records; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: Preparing and assisting with the maintenance of utility and financial records; entering, verifying and checking data; processing accounts payable, accounts receivable and other financial accounts. Posts, checks and corrects transactions to accounting records; Prepares and processes meter reading data; processes active and final utility bills; Prepares and sets-up billing statements; Examines meter reading schedule; reviews meter books and computer records for errors; Initiates and completes work orders in the billing software; Balances landfill accounts and processes invoices and statements; Assists customers at the counter and over the telephone; Applies penalty to past due utility bills; prepares cut-off notices and reminder notices; Enters a variety of accounting data; posts payments to accounts; Sets-up and processes bank drafts; resolves customer account problems; Maintains a variety of accounting records; Reconciles and balances accounts; balances utility deposits; calculates interest; Performs related tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; general knowledge of accounting principles and related data processing equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to follow detailed work procedures; ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; skill in the use of a variety of standard data entry and computer equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by courses in bookkeeping and some experience in general office, data processing and accounting work. QualificationsEducation and experience, high school diploma or equivalent, experience in general office, data processing or accounting work. In addition, general knowledge of office procedures, proficiency in data entry with strong attention to detail and excellent communication and customer service skills. Must be able to follow detailed procedures and work both independently and as a team.
