Job Title: County Adviser – Northumberland and North Durham (North Region) - Part time, Job ShareSalary:£24,600 per annum. This is based on a full time equivalent of £41,000 per annum. (Dependant on Skills and Experience) plus car allowance Location:Home based, covering Northumberland and North Durham within the North region Working Hours:21 hours per week Contract Type:Permanent Purpose of the role & how you will contribute:Working in partnership with your job share partner, you will manage a team of NFU Group Secretaries (who also have a role with the NFU Mutual as an insurance agent). You’ll support local farmers, growers, and food producers by managing the NFU’s work in your allocated county. This includes developing plans to recruit and retain members and ensuring their voice is heard through lobbying and influencing stakeholders across the county. In partnership with your job share partner, you will lead all NFU activities in your county, support and manage local NFU democratic structures, and be the key local NFU representative. You’ll lead recruitment of local NFU Group Secretaries, manage their performance, and support member engagement activities. As a prominent local voice, you’ll promote NFU’s work to members, liaise with regional and HQ colleagues on regional and local issues including farming, food, rural matters, and the environment. Building a network of local stakeholders, media, and political contacts, you will oversee local lobbying efforts and support regional initiatives. Please note that this role is titled County Adviser – Northumberland & North Durham (North Region) within the NFU. What you’ll bring:You will have strong knowledge and experience of farming businesses, agricultural, supply chain, or other rural professional roles. You’ll be skilled in building and managing effective relationships, influencing policy, and delivering on agricultural or rural initiatives. You should be a persuasive communicator, confident in managing objections, and able to speak effectively to diverse audiences both in person and via media. Experience in managing, recruiting, and developing remote teams is essential. Flexibility to work irregular hours and extensive driving within your county and region is required.
