The Associate Broadcast & IT Field Engineer is tasked with timely and professional support in a fast-paced 24x7x365 field-based newsgathering/production environment. Individuals in this job have demonstrated basic skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary to meet the full range of field engineering responsibilities. Associate BIT Field Engineers will be tasked with setting up and operating audio, video, RF and related communications systems to support live television production operations at remote locations, additionally performing quality control, and maintenance on this equipment. He or she will also provide general hardware and software support for local computing equipment such as laptops, printers, and connectivity equipment on site. Associate BIT Field Engineers will also participate in technology design, installation, and integration projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly broadcast IP and IT centric environment. This includes traditional broadcasting and server-based systems, data networking (e.g., routers, switches) and other comparable equipment. This position will primarily provide field support, however there will also be opportunities to spend time working in-house, or assisting Broadcast and IT teams with project and maintenance work, when not working on field assignments. This position requires: Basic electronics and IT support skills. Travel (typically Domestic, but occasionally international) is required, often with short notice. The ability to physically lift and move equipment is necessary. Willingness to perform varied tasks when required on assignment to support field production. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations frequently encountered in field remote environments. Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal, written). Associate level engineers will have demonstrated competency in a wide variety of technology, including baseline knowledge of analysing and solving complex technical problems. Main Responsibilities: Perform 24x7x365 broadcast technical support to include installation, maintenance and troubleshooting/repair of sophisticated audio, video and related remote broadcast television production and IT equipment. Perform local in-shop maintenance and repair: maintain and support field engineering equipment and field production crew gear. Fill a general engineering support role on remotes/projects. Participate on technology design, installation, and integration projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly broadcast IP and IT centric environment. Receive, inventory, and QC the field equipment to ensure readiness for deployments as well as ensuring sufficient inventory of parts and technology supplies. Work directly with clients to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget. Serve as liaison between Engineering Management, staff, and customers. Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work. Use of 1) AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio for system documentation and 2) ITSM ticketing tool to log incidents/requests. Selection Criteria: A technical degree, preferably in electronics or communications engineering (or equivalent education/experience/training). Demonstrated knowledge of computer and data networking hardware and applications to ensure broad technical support in the field. Typically, one or more years of experience in television engineering, including troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of broadcast production equipment such as: IT systems, RF/satellite transmission systems, studio production systems, IP/ASI streaming systems, file ingest systems and quality control techniques. Basic operational skills on a range of television remote broadcast and production equipment such as: SNG satellite uplink/downlink equipment, microwave, video encoding, IP transmission, ENG/Studio cameras and support equipment, A/V routers and infrastructure, video switchers, audio mixers, media decks, NLE edit systems and storage devices, fiber optic links, signal processing and transcoding devices, production communications (intercom) and computer systems/ IT networks architecture. A problem solver who is able to perform well in a fast-paced environment. Exposure to technology companies such as Sony, Harmonic, Evertz, etc. UK Manual Driving licence, ideally with Class C1 HGV.
