Job Description

Would you like to work for a multi-award-winning practice with an amazing team and a great rota? All About Us We are expanding our team and are looking for a small animal vet with some experience who is looking to progress their career further. We are fortunate to have certificate holders in small animal medicine and ECC and have team members working towards further qualifications in animal behaviour, dermatology and dentistry. There is lots of experience within our team of 15 small animal vets, so someone is always on hand to discuss a tricky case or offer advice and support. We want you to pursue your interests and develop your skills. Certificates are encouraged and we are happy to support your chosen field of studies and have the varied caseload needed for this. As a practice, we love what we do and pride ourselves on our excellent patient care and high-quality service to our patients and clients. Our ethos is very simple - we want people to be happy at work, so if we can improve one of the team's lives and make it work, we do it. Most importantly, there is so much respect between the team; we all like each other, and everyone looks out for one another. That’s probably why so many of our colleagues have been with us for a long time, and we have a very low staff turnover. We are always looking for ways to support the team. We have recently collaborated with local businesses to provide a staff Wellbeing Day, including exercise and yoga sessions, food prep sessions and talks around wellbeing. Stanley House started in 1911, and now we are an award-winning, multi-site practice with our main small animal clinic in Colne, branch surgeries in Burnley and Barnoldswick (consult only), and our farm and equine clinic in Higham. We were very honoured to have won the Pendle Employer of the Year in 2016 and runner-up in 2018 (the awards have not taken place since). We are so very proud of this award because it was all about what our team said about us. We have also been highly commended twice in the SPVS (The Society for Practising Veterinary Surgeons) Wellbeing Awards. In a recent b-Heard colleague engagement survey, our team rated us in the ‘outstanding to work for’ category. What our team say about working at Stanley House ‘’Having started as a new graduate and progressing year on year through to now being a team leader, I can't imagine working anywhere else. I know I can call on colleagues for support and advice, and I would trust any of my peers with the care of my own animal. I'm proud to recommend the practice to new potential clients because I know they will receive excellent care. There's a range of experience, knowledge, and skills within the team and opportunity to develop personal areas of interest.’’Yana MCRVS – Clinical Director ‘’I've worked at Stanley House Vets for almost 10 years now, after working at a few other practices since qualifying in 2009. The time has gone so quickly as I genuinely enjoy working here, and it doesn't feel like a 'chore' going to work. The entire team, from receptionists to nurses to vets, is so lovely, and everyone works well together. Everyone strives to give the best client and patient care; for us, it’s not just a job! The day-to-day workload is varied, and we all have the opportunity to get involved in all areas of the veterinary workplace. The management team are also extremely supportive, and there are ample opportunities to further progress your career with CPD and certificates.’’Natalie RVN ‘’I joined Stanley House as a new graduate vet shortly after finishing university. The team has made me feel so welcome since I’ve been here. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive environment. There are always plenty of vets available to speak to with a lot of experience in different aspects of veterinary.’’Ben MRCVS ‘’We all keep busy at Stanley House, but what a fantastic company to work for. People are always on hand to help, senior staff are always up for discussing cases, and I cannot believe how understanding and flexible the team have been when needing time off for personal reasons. The clients are super friendly and make the job fun. Vet life can be stressful, but the staff and clients ensure you're always supported, even when things don't go according to plan. Thanks to all the Stanley House staff for working with me and making me a better vet every day.’’Catherine, MRCVS Award-winning facilities We love our work environment and were delighted to win the BVHA (British Veterinary Hospitals Association) design award 2019. Our facilities are excellent; the clinic at Colne has recently undergone substantial renovations, hugely increasing our workspace. We now have five consulting rooms, two theatres, and separate dental and diagnostic suites. We are continually investing back into the practices, and our Burnley site had a £100k makeover last year! Great Rota It is essential to us that our team are happy at work and enjoy a good work-life balance, and with their help, we have worked to develop the best rota possible. We are always happy to adjust your hours to ensure a good work-life balance or chat about part-time hours. Our full-time vets work on an 8-week rolling rota, which means you can plan your life well in advance. Out of the 8 weeks, you have 6 totally undisturbed weekends, and you only work two 5-day weeks; the others are either 3 or 4-day weeks. You will only have up to two late finishes per week, finishing at 7 pm. However, if you are on a late shift, you will only start at 11 am or 1.30 pm that day. We have also built in a ‘flexivet’ (an extra vet), which has allowed us to build in plenty of time for admin and phone calls. The on-call rota is 1.5 in 8 weekends and one weeknight every other week, with a bonus paid for each client seen. There is always extra time off following your weekends or on-call duty. We also have a team of dedicated night nurses from 7.30 pm to look after the inpatients and to answer and triage any calls, ensuring you’re only called in when needed. What we get up to outside of work! We love getting together outside of work, whether for our summer BBQ, getting competitive at the local pub quiz or dinner and dancing at our Christmas party. We always have fun and make memories to keep us laughing all year round. We love raising money for good causes, and we regularly take part in charity events; we have completed both the Lancashire and Yorkshire 3 peaks, a guide dogs challenge, and we also take part in the annual Pendle pub crawl – a 13-mile walk with 13 pubs for refreshments along the way!! What’s it like around here? If you are not from the area, Pendle is a lovely part of the country in the Northwest of England, nestling between the Ribble Valley and the Pennine Way. The Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty, is on our doorstep, and the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and Bronte Country are all within easy reach. We have two golf courses in Pendle and a sailing club on Burwains reservoir. The area is fantastic for cycling, walking, and running, and for footie fans, we have the infamous Burnley football team – we won’t mention their Premier League standing! For people who enjoy the City life, we are also within easy reach of Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds, which all offer excellent shopping and nightlife. The Nitty Gritty Salary of £45,000 to £65,000, depending on experience 33 days holiday, including bank holidays, increasing with length of service Holiday buy-back scheme for those who love to travel – like vets Lizzie and Lauren, who headed off on a 4-week adventure to Oz earlier this year, and Yana is spending 3 weeks in New Zealand over Christmas Generous CPD allowance of £1,750 per annum (pro rata), with certificates encouraged and funded Professional fees for RCVS and VDS paid for Accommodation available Visas sponsored Well-behaved dogs should be able to come to work with you Health Shield cash plan and access to an Employee Assistance Programme Discounted gym membership Cycle to work scheme Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental leave and surrogacy pay Company sick pay If you want to join our friendly and supportive team, please call us for an informal chat or apply now.#J-18808-Ljbffr
