This field-based position involves supervising construction contractor project activities to ensure conformance with project plans, specifications, special provisions, engineering, and environmental plans. Job Title:Construction InspectorJob Type:Permanent Salary:$60-80hr. Depending on Experience Location: Rhode Island AreaResponsibilities: Inspect and approve all contractor site work, ensuring conformance with contract documents and quality standards; inform of substandard work and ensure remedial action is taken. Prepare daily inspection reports documenting all project work activities and events. Perform field measurements and assessments of project work completed, and verify pay quantities. Collaborate with the Engineer on project issues, corrections of substandard work, and negotiation of extra work items. Analyze and evaluate constructability issues and provide effective solutions. Prepare engineering and administrative reports with considerable technical skill. Verify and approve contractor-submitted materials, components, and methods; ensure minimum material testing requirements are met. Participate in project meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and follow up on action items. Coordinate with contractor project managers and utility representatives to avoid work conflicts and schedule delays. Collaborate with the public, property, and business owners when required to address issues resulting from construction activities. Monitor Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (M&PT) operations for compliance with project safety plans. Ensure contractor compliance with environmental permits, affirmative action, and equal employment opportunity (EEO) plans. Qualifications:Knowledge, Skill, and Ability: Considerable knowledge of principles and practices for complex RIDOT highway and bridge construction projects, including roadway construction, excavations, grading, drainage, paving, bridge repairs, and utility installations. Ability to analyze and resolve engineering, highway, structural, and traffic design issues. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and interpret plans and specifications. Minimum Qualifications – General Experience: Two (2) years of field inspection experience on civil construction projects. Ability to read and understand complex construction plans and specifications. Strong written communication skills with experience writing detailed daily inspection reports. Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed: A bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management and one (1) year of experience in transportation construction engineering. Qualifications: Experience with AASHTOWare and COMPASS for construction management. ACI Certification, NETTCP Concrete, NETTCP HMA Paving, NETTCP Soils and Aggregate, ATSSA Traffic Control Technician, OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety and Health.
