About Your New RoleOur Emergency Services team is one of the largest in the UK. Our specialist practitioners act exclusively for the police service, representing a diverse range of forces across England and Wales. As the largest dedicated police legal team in the country, our lawyers have been involved in some of the most high-profile and significant cases involving the police over the last 15 years. We are recruiting for a Solicitor 0-3 PQE to join our national Casualty Police Claims team in Liverpool, Manchester, or Leicester. You will manage a caseload of pre-litigated and litigated claims and assist other fee earners. Main duties and responsibilitiesSpecialize in acting on behalf of police forces, claims handlers, and insurers in defending civil actions against the police. Manage a caseload of civil malfeasance claims, including false imprisonment, trespass, malicious prosecution, and Human Rights Act claims, as well as employers liability claims. Assist the Team Manager and team members with client development, training, and networking. Support and mentor junior team members. Liaise with solicitors, insurers, experts, counsel, and clients. Control diary and action lists, and complete MI procedures. Attend court hearings, conducting advocacy where appropriate. Maintain client care standards per guidelines and directions. Achieve financial and chargeable hours targets. Comply with rules, policies, and procedures. Stay updated with legal developments. Work in accordance with Weightmans values. About YouYou will be a qualified solicitor or legal executive with: Experience in defending civil claims; claimant experience considered. Ability to undertake advocacy. Knowledge of CPR and litigation. Knowledge of police law (desirable). Excellent organization, time management, communication, and IT skills. Ability to meet deadlines and targets.
