Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced M365 Data Migration Engineer to support a critical data migration programme for a leading defence client. The successful candidate will lead the migration of data from legacy network drives to OneDrive and SharePoint Online , supporting over 5,000 users. This role requires a hands-on engineer with deep technical expertise in Microsoft 365 migrations and experience with enterprise-scale migration tooling, ideally Sharegate . Flexibility for out-of-hours work , including evenings and weekends, is essential due to the nature of the migration schedule. Key Responsibilities: Plan, manage, and execute large-scale data migrations from on-premise network drives to OneDrive and SharePoint Online. Use migration tooling such as Sharegate to facilitate and monitor data migration. Collaborate with project managers, IT support teams, and end-users to ensure smooth transition and minimal disruption. Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance during migration in accordance with defence industry standards. Provide reporting and documentation of progress, issues, and resolutions. Support post-migration testing and user acceptance. Essential Skills & Experience: Proven experience in Microsoft 365 data migrations , particularly OneDrive and SharePoint Online. Demonstrated success in migrating network drive data for 5,000 users . Hands-on experience with migration tools such as Sharegate or similar platforms. Ability to work independently and solve complex migration challenges. Strong understanding of file permissions, data ownership, and SharePoint architecture. Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Desirable: Previous experience working in a defence or secure environment . Knowledge of compliance requirements within the public sector or MOD frameworks. Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-100, MS-101, or equivalent). Additional Information: Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK and may be subject to security clearance. Flexible/remote working options may be considered depending on client requirements.
