ResponsibilitiesReception Duties: Greet patients, families, and visitors upon arrival to the Progressive Care Unit Answer and direct phone calls to the appropriate staff members Provide information and assistance to visitors and families as needed Promptly answer pneumatic tube system and utilize appropriate follow up Assist the unit manager with identifying broken/problematic EMR devices (WOWs, tablets, wall PCs, desktop PCs), label printers, fax/printers Report equipment issues to appropriate departments using established procedures and track resolution of reported problems, escalating barriers to unit manager as needed. Patient Record Management/Patient Care: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including admission and discharge information Ensure that all patient charts are organized and accessible to medical staff Monitor physician/provider orders in the electronic medical record (EMR) when necessary Maintain medical records and break down paper charts in compliance with medical records guidelines Ensure complete chart is sent with patient at time of transfer to another department, transfer to another facility or at discharge Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, oral care, dressing, grooming, and toileting Assist in transportation and transfer of patients, ensuring comfort and safety during movement Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data, reporting any abnormalities or concerns to nursing team Complete Accuchecks as directed Assist with patient hygiene and comfort measures, including turning and repositioning patients to prevent pressure ulcers Support patients with feeding and hydration needs, adhering to dietary restrictions and assisting with mealtime activities, removing trays in a timely manner Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and promote positive patient outcomes Complete hourly rounds to assigned patients and anticipate patient needs, responding promptly to call lights and patient requests Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families, demonstrating empathy and compassion in all interactions Communication Coordination: Serve as a communication hub between nurses, physicians, patients and other departments Relay messages, lab results, and critical information to the appropriate parties promptly Coordinate the scheduling of tests, procedures, and consultations for patients Request equipment and supplies needed to carry out physician orders and ensure delivery. Patient and Family Liaison: Provide updates to families regarding patient status as directed by medical staff Ensure that family members have the resources and support they need while visiting the PCU Administrative Support: Assist with the preparation of reports, forms, and other documents as required by the PCU team Order and maintain inventory of supplies for the PCU unit Ensure prompt, appropriate storage of all supplies Handle the filing and organization of documents and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures Ensure nursing unit is constantly prepared for an EMR downtime event, including maintenance of identified downtime devices and equipment Compliance and Confidentiality: Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, particularly those related to patient privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA) Ensure compliance with safety and infection control procedures QualificationsAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
