About The Howard GroupThe Howard group combines simple, predictive mathematical and biophysical modelling with long-lasting experimental collaborations to dissect biological mechanisms too complex to unravel by experiments alone. Our approach is highly interdisciplinary, relying on statistical physics, applied mathematics, and close collaboration with experimental groups. Current research areas include the setup and maintenance of epigenetic memory states and understanding patterning dynamics in sub-cellular biological systems. The RoleThe main purpose is to develop predictive computational models of epigenetic dynamics, collaborating with Prof Rob Klose's experimental group at Oxford University. The models aim to enhance understanding of how the Polycomb system silences gene expression and maintains such a silenced memory state through cell cycles. The Ideal CandidateCandidates should possess (or soon complete) a PhD in Theoretical Physics, Bio-Mathematics, or Computational Biology, with a strong interest in biological problems and proven scientific success.
