The successful candidate will join a team of Orthopaedic professionals who remain committed to that culture of innovation today. The department has over 50 Consultant Surgeons covering the full range of Trauma & Orthopaedics, making it one of the largest UK centres. It is a tertiary referral centre for all sub-specialities except spinal services. It is the Level O ne Major T rauma C entre for Cheshire , Merseyside and the Isle of Man. All the surgeons are passionate about what they do and keen to develop you and your knowledge Main duties of the jobThe post will be based predominantly at Broadgreen Hospital, our state-of-the-art elective centre and at Aintree University Hospital, our trauma site. Day to day work will be varied including ward work, outpatient clinics and theatre sessions. We encourage trainees to operate under supportive supervision to develop their surgical skills. The Fellow will take an active part in the upper limb trauma workload and can expect to be exposed to a wide variety of upper limb trauma cases. The Fellow will take part in the Upper Limb elective outpatient clinics run on a Tuesday at Broadgreen site and fracture clinic twice a week at Aintree site. Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesExperience will be gained in arthroscopic shoulder surgery including arthroscopic Bankart repair and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. In addition, experience will be gained in shoulder arthroplasty, elbow arthroplasty and revision shoulder and elbow arthroplasty. The position is projected for a senior trainee who anticipates becoming an orthopaedic consultant on completion of the Fellowship. One session of the job is therefore linked to administration, and this will involve liaising with other members involved in the care of patients within the hospital, the ratification of protocols and involvement in risk management. One session is allocated to research and education. The Fellow is free to choose whether they will utilise this time for furthering clinical skills or pursing research/teaching interests. The Fellow is expected to actively participate in formal and informal teaching of Resident and Specialist Registrars working in the hospital. A number of the consultants are deeply involved in educational roles all the way from undergraduate level to registrar level and pride themselves on training the next generation of surgeons. It is expected that the Fellow will achieve at least one published piece of research within the 12-month appointment.
