An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated General Practitioner or Specialty Doctor with an MRCGP qualification and an interest in Forensic Medicine to join our expanding forensic medical examination and police custody healthcare team. The role offers flexibility, with sessions tailored to fit around existing clinical commitments, including out-of-hours work and some day shifts. This position is suitable for experienced GPs or Specialty Doctors seeking engaging part-time work. The role involves varied responsibilities, including custody healthcare and forensic medical examinations, with comprehensive on-the-job training provided. The team comprises experienced nurse prescribers managing custody patients and supporting forensic examinations. Your duties include conducting examinations and assessments of adults and children under Police Scotland's instruction, providing exposure to diverse clinical presentations in a dynamic environment. There are opportunities to present findings in court, offering valuable insights into the criminal justice process. The position covers Lothian, Borders, Fife, and Forth Valley, with cross-region coverage as needed. Own transport and a valid driving license are essential. This role coincides with the Scottish police service reformation and the evolving role of forensic medical examiners, with prospects for full Royal College status. Postgraduate examinations are available via the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine, supporting career development.
