Job summary We are currently looking for Dispatchers in our Emergency (999) Operations Centre based in York. You would become part of a team delivering an invaluable service to patients of Yorkshire. Main duties of the jobWe have a variety of working options available to suit you that can be discussed at interview, which may include working unsociable hours, weekends, Bank Holidays, and the Christmas/New Year period. Dispatchers are responsible for the coordination and deployment of all Accident and Emergency ambulance resources to meet the demands of the service and to ensure help reaches patients as quickly as possible. Using the Computer Aided Dispatch System, you will monitor service response times to patients continuously. You will liaise directly with ambulance staff on the road to ensure the best response to patients' needs. You would be expected to work a shift pattern that includes unsociable hours, weekends, Bank Holidays, and the Christmas/New Year period. This includes up to 4 night shifts per week on 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts. You need to be able to travel to and from work at various times of the day and night. Following training, you will be mentored by an experienced EOC Dispatcher for approximately 8-10 weeks, during which you will undergo written and observational assessments before being signed off as competent.
