Main duties of the jobThe Clinical Safety Manager is an experienced senior practitioner with clinical expertise, capable of interacting with all levels of clinical and management teams. Coordinates the incident process, liaising with external bodies such as the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Trust teams, acting as a key contact for timely and appropriate reporting in line with guidelines. Manages the Datix incident reporting system, providing training and access for users. Serves as a key contact for Corporate/Divisional teams, offering support when the designated lead is unavailable. Has line management responsibility for the Clinical Safety Team or provides support in the absence of the line manager. Coordinates and facilitates Incident Management Group (IMG) and Patient Safety Incident Assurance Panel (PSIAP) meetings, ensuring process completion and supporting incident management. Provides expert advice on Clinical Safety Management initiatives within the Trust. Job responsibilitiesAct as an expert Datix user and incident investigation specialist, ensuring compliance with incident reporting policies. Organize bi-weekly IMG and bi-monthly PSIAP meetings. Serve as a liaison between Divisional teams and the ICB on incident matters, communicating incidents that meet PSIAP criteria. Monitor investigations, support investigators, and ensure timely and quality reports and action plans. Coordinate with stakeholders to support key actions from IMG/PSIAP. Monitor significant incidents, providing feedback and ensuring proper reporting and action plans. Manage and analyze data from Datix, facilitating access to quality data daily. Provide clinical advice/support to divisional Quality and Safety teams and act as the main contact in absence of the Patient Safety Specialist. Develop mechanisms to identify trends and support safety improvements. Produce monthly incident reports for internal and external groups. Support the development and updating of Trust induction training on incident reporting and safety. Person SpecificationEducation and qualificationsA registered clinical practitioner (NMC/HPC). Masters level qualification or equivalent experience in healthcare practice. Expert knowledge of clinical safety incidents and reporting. Relevant NHS or similar environment experience. Knowledge of the Never Events Framework and current lists. QualificationsMasters level qualification or equivalent healthcare experience. ExperienceClinical governance or relevant NHS experience. Expertise in incident investigation, Patient Safety Incident Response, and Duty of Candour. Ability to communicate key safety information effectively. Experience in designing and delivering training.
