The Bartlett Development Planning Unit (DPU) at University College London (UCL) is an international centre specialising in academic teaching, practical training, research, and consultancy in urban and regional development and planning. It is concerned with promoting sustainable development, understanding rapid urbanisation, and encouraging innovation in policy, planning, and management responses to the economic, social, and environmental development of cities and regions, especially in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.About the role Based within the Bartlett Development Planning Unit (DPU) at University College London (UCL), we seek a full-time post-doctoral research assistant to work on the project titled “Co-producing Digital Platforms for Youth Inclusive Urban Governance.” This project focuses on four small to medium-sized cities in Indonesia and Lebanon, examining youth engagement in urban governance amidst exclusionary power dynamics. The research involves working with young people as citizen scientists, analyzing existing youth- and state-led urban platforms, and conducting a quantitative survey of over 4,000 young people across the four cities.The appointment is for 16 months under the UCL Research Fellow scheme, with an initial salary of Grade 7, point 31 (£44,480 per annum, including London Allowance). The expected start date is 1 June 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be subject to UCL’s probationary procedures.About you The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to completion) and will take a lead role in managing the project, coordinating administrative tasks, and conducting research activities.
