We are looking to recruit a caring, personable and proactive Matron to work in one of our boy's boarding houses. The role is offered either full-time or part-time two/three days per week.Details We are looking to recruit a caring, personable and proactive Matron to work in one of our boy's boarding houses. The role is offered either full-time or part-time two/three days per week. Their primary role is to support the Houseparent with the welfare, happiness and well-being of the pupils in their care.Role Summary The Matron (alongside the Houseparent) is responsible for the day-to-day running of the House, ensuring its cleanliness, tidiness, comfort, health and safety. The role is supported by cleaning staff.The Matron also supports the Housemaster/mistress (Houseparent) with the welfare, happiness and well-being of the pupils in their care. Working in conjunction with the Houseparent, the Matron supervises and provides care for the pupils, with particular emphasis on the physical, social and emotional well-being and presentation of the pupils in the House.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesMedical and Domestic:Be responsible for the general health and well-being of students, alongside the Houseparent.Be the first point of contact for pupils who become unwell or require treatment during the school day, liaising with parents and staff as needed.Maintain medical supplies, administer medication following school policies, and check first aid kits regularly.Coordinate with the Catering Department regarding dietary requirements and manage grocery and supply deliveries.Ensure the House is maintained to high standards of tidiness and safety, reporting defects and conducting inspections.Manage keys, registers, and ensure pupils' timely departure and arrival routines.Oversee end-of-term procedures, house setup, and ensure all signage and documentation are up to date.Pastoral:Work with the Houseparent to provide high-level pastoral care, establishing strong relationships with pupils.Monitor pupils' wellbeing, behavior, and attendance, and record concerns appropriately.Be vigilant to mental health issues, attend relevant training, and support pupils in various activities and events.Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies.Person SpecificationQualifications: Educated to A Level standard with GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade 4 or above.Experience: Prior experience in a school or similar setting is desirable; knowledge of child protection and school operations.Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication, record-keeping, and sewing skills.Attributes: Warm, tactful, flexible, organized, calm under pressure, and committed to safeguarding children.Working hours: 40 hours per week during term time plus one week; part-time options (2-3 days) considered.Additional benefits:Free lunches, on-site parking, pension scheme, and access to college facilities.Hurstpierpoint College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
