Job summaryThis is a full-time Contract for a well-motivated and enthusiastic Scientist to support the Diagnostic Immunology Service at GOSH.The Immunology Laboratory at Great Ormond Street Hospital provides diagnostic services to the Trust, including allergy, autoimmunity, immunophenotyping, cell culture and proteins, as well as a national specialist Molecular Diagnostic Service for immune deficiency.You will undertake routine investigations and duties providing supportto senior Scientists in all these areas under their supervision.Please ensure that you read the attached Job Description and Person Specification carefully as your application will be judged against these criteria.Main duties of the jobTo carry out laboratory investigations on paediatric samples unsupervised as requested by the clinical services, taking responsibility for quality and accuracy of the results produced.This includes performing: ELISA, Allergy testing, Indirect Immunofluorescence techniques, cell culture and proliferation assays, Flow cytometry techniques.To have knowledge of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in use within the department and be proficient in the most frequently performed techniques and update SOPs as required.To assist senior healthcare scientists in the provision of the laboratory service for the day to day running of the laboratory.To operate and maintain (where appropriate) laboratory equipment in the prescribed mannerEnsure all work is completed timely and to satisfactory standards and will seek advice from senior staff when required.Ensure that safe working practises are maintained according to standard operational procedures.To participate in maintaining appropriate internal and external quality assurance.To assist the senior staff and laboratory manager with documentation including that required for UKAS accreditation.To assist in maintaining stock levels as required.To participate in adaptation to new methodology or working practices when required, due to changing circumstances.To Participate in and facilitation of Quality Assurance and Audit.About usGOSH is committed to recruiting the best person for the job, based solely on their ability and individual merit as measured against the criteria for the role; through a process that is fair, open, consistent and free from bias and discrimination.We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive employer and foster a culture where all staff are valued, respected and acknowledged.
