Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting full-time Band 6 Podiatrists to join our expanding Community Foot Health team. Working across the vibrant London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, you'll be part of a friendly, forward-thinking team of nearly 30 podiatrists delivering high-quality, patient-centred care in clinics, hospitals, and patients' homes. Main duties of the jobTo work as part of an autonomous and innovative team specialising in foot and lower limb pathologies. To assess, diagnose, implement and develop individualised assessment and treatment programmes for patients with an emphasis on medical need. This will involve general and specialist care within a range of locations, including clinical, domiciliary, hospital, and other external settings with a holistic and multidisciplinary approach. About usWe are a large community-based service comprised of thirty podiatrists and two podiatry assistants who work across the central London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark. We have a fantastic, diverse, and friendly team and work closely with hospital-based teams at Guy's and St Thomas'. The hospital sites offer multidisciplinary wound care, musculoskeletal services, and podiatric surgery. We schedule regular education sessions to enhance our knowledge as a team and hold quarterly meetings alongside hospital teams. Date posted01 May 2025 Pay schemeAgenda for change BandBand 6 Salary£44,806 to £53,134 a year p.a. inc HCAS ContractPermanent Working patternFull-time Reference number196-LIS9503 Job locationsArtesian Podiatry Centre, 94 Alscot Road, London, SE1 3GG Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesClinical Duties To be responsible and accountable for the complex assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with a wide variety of podiatric complaints, including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, musculoskeletal, vascular, neurological disorders, systemic diseases, chronic pathologies, emergency treatments, wound management, pediatrics, deformities, and nail/skin pathologies. To demonstrate sound clinical expertise, keep informed of current best practices, and contribute to evidence-based guidelines. To organise and evaluate highly specialised podiatric care plans tailored to patient needs, with regular reviews and coordination of further interventions. Make referrals to other specialists and facilitate safe discharge when appropriate. To undertake specialist diabetic foot assessments and management, working with challenging groups, including those with mental health problems, and managing foot ulcers. To identify risk factors, prioritise patients, and arrange emergency hospital admissions when necessary. To provide care in various settings, often independently, including community health centres, residential/nursing homes, and patients' homes. To work in areas with high social deprivation and possess highly developed physical skills for procedures such as debridement, local anaesthetic techniques, and minor surgery, with the ability to manage anaphylactic shock if needed. To coordinate and manage patient caseloads and clinics, ensuring adherence to trust standards and policies. To maintain accurate patient records, manage equipment and stock, contribute to service development, participate in audits, and provide patient education and health promotion activities. To prescribe and apply technology such as gait analysis systems and Doppler ultrasound for measurement, monitoring, and treatment.
