About the roleWe are recruiting to join our Transport Team at our Booker Distribution Centre in Fareham, Hampshire. As a Transport Team Manager, you will support the site management team in the efficient, safe, legal, and cost-effective management of transport operations. The objective of the role is to ensure that our large, fast-moving transport operation runs smoothly and efficiently, achieving optimum service levels across all contracts while working to specific KPIs. It is essential to have knowledge of the transport function within the FMCG distribution industry, including previous experience supervising depot transport operations and a strong understanding of transport legislation. Main ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Transport Logistics Manager, you will: Achieve operational KPIs and service agreements within tight deadlines. Drive improvements by engaging the team and promoting a positive culture. Manage vehicle breakdowns, minimizing impact to retailers. Analyze Tacho-graph infringement reports, discuss infringements with drivers, and liaise with Warehouse Operations to ensure timely loading and departures. Ensure legal compliance with all transport legislation, particularly regarding drivers' hours. Maintain fleet availability through proper servicing, MOTs, and defect management. You will needCommitment and ability to work under pressure. Excellent people management skills and the ability to develop yourself and others. High levels of initiative, focus, commitment, and flexibility. Working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Health & Safety, Employment Law, Discrimination) - Essential. Understanding of transport legislation and the impact of non-compliance on the Operator Licence - Essential. Knowledge of multi-temperature warehouse and transport procedures - Essential. Ability to plan labor and resources effectively to meet KPIs and service levels. Effective teamwork and confident communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 - Essential. WMS experience - Desirable. CPC qualification - Desirable.
