We are looking for a Network Construction Lead Operative to join our team and be responsible for managing significant, large scale construction activity across multiple sites. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOWAs our new Network Construction Lead Operative, you’ll be responsible for successfully completing the Main renewal scheme activity as allocated on a particular site, while ensuring our customers safely receive a constant supply of good quality drinking water. You’ll be the senior member of the Construction team on site, coordinating activities and providing support and guidance as required. You’ll also be responsible for risk assessing and delivering DMA Main Renewal schemes in accordance with the relevant SSOW and SOPS. Additionally, you’ll ensure that all DMA renewal schemes are delivered to ST high quality standards whilst adhering to company ODI targets. The role holder will also oversee and support contractors and other external stakeholders on site. This role requires a 42-hour work week, Monday to Friday, starting at 7:30 AM and ending at 4:30 PM, with a half-hour early finish at 4:00 PM on Fridays. Key Accountabilities:Ensure CDM compliance on site, i.e., responsible for the health, safety and well-being of team members, site visitors, contractors, and members of the public, in accordance with CDM regulations. Communicate with the on-site team to ensure the quality, quantity, and understanding of tasks ahead are carried out safely and effectively, and liaise with external stakeholders such as utility providers, asset owners, companies, local authorities, and customers. Identify and mitigate potential hazards. Document findings in a daily dynamic risk assessment and ensure full compliance with SOPS for all activities undertaken on site. Actively manage impacts depending on the activity, including impacts on the wider organization, customers, external businesses, and organizations (e.g., blocked roads, traffic management, bursts, supply interruptions), and deliver construction work within a planned budget. WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLEThe ideal candidate will have experience working on Mains Renewal schemes and/or hold a formal NCO Qualification, with experience in a utility-based industry. You should be capable of coordinating activities, supporting a team, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders in a construction environment. You’ll demonstrate awareness and practical experience of CDM Regulations, risk & opportunity identification, and be trained in Utility Avoidance and Location, Thrust Boring, Safe Digging, and 360 Excavator below 10T. Completion of all NRSWA modules is required. Additional knowledge of Mains Renewal processes, options, associated risks, and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments is essential. You should be able to make prompt, clear decisions, communicate effectively, and support team activities, preferably in a construction setting.
