As an ethical business, we are a leading voice in the UK plastics industry, on topics including recycling, waste reduction, and sustainability.We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Engineer to join our design team. The ideal candidate will lead the design and development of fabricated parts and assemblies, manage work packages, and oversee the configuration of each part. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, proficiency in SolidWorks, and effective leadership of small teams. Excellent communication skills are essential, as this role involves engaging with individuals at all levels across the company. This position is suitable for a dynamic, technically minded individual eager to advance into management.Key Tasks:Lead the design and development of fabricated parts for in-house manufacturing.Manage work packages, ensuring timely and within-budget project completion.Develop and maintain product configurations to meet industry standards and client requirements.Create detailed designs and technical drawings using SolidWorks.Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless design integration into production.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.Conduct design reviews and implement improvements based on feedback.Stay updated with industry trends and incorporate best practices into design processes.Report to the Technical Manager daily, with regular updates to the Engineering Director and board.Present ideas and designs effectively to management using various media, including sketches, line drawings, solid models, and PowerPoint.Ensure designs are cost-effective and optimized for manufacturing.Support fabrication and manufacturing in steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.Essential Qualifications:Bachelor's degree (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering or related field.Proven experience in mechanical system and component design and development.Proficiency in SolidWorks and relevant design software.Strong project management skills with experience managing work packages.Understanding of product configurations and industry standards.Leadership and mentorship capabilities for small teams.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to convey ideas effectively across various media.Knowledge of cost-effective manufacturing and design for manufacture principles.Benefits:Monday to Friday workweek, Fridays finish at 2:30 pm.Competitive salary.Opportunities for career progression.Company pension contribution of 5%.25 days holidays plus bank holidays, with additional days based on service.Access to health and wellbeing services, including mental health support and free eye tests.Financial advisory services, bereavement support, enhanced maternity/paternity pay, will writing, income protection, and death in service cover.About Summit Systems LtdSummit Systems is an award-winning leader in customer-focused solutions within material handling, industrial temperature control, and recycling.
