Job summaryThis post is for a Locum Consultant Paediatrician based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The post holder will primarily work at Worcestershire Royal Hospital but will also undertake outpatient clinics across the county, including Redditch, Evesham, Malvern, and Kidderminster. The Maternity and Paediatric Services in Worcestershire have recently been reviewed, leading to a model where all inpatient Paediatric and Neonatal Services are based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. All births occur there, with potential future options for a Midwifery Led Unit in Northeast Worcestershire. Inpatient Neonatal or Paediatric beds are not available at Alexandra Hospital, which provides an adult Emergency Department and minor injury services. REPORTING TO Clinical Lead Director of Paediatrics Main duties of the job This post involves an average of 10 PA per week, negotiable with a minimum of 8 PA. Duties include on-call, outpatient activity, and supporting professional activities such as teaching, audit, research, and CPD. The on-call system is a hybrid 1:6, with some resident duties, involving a nominated weekday evening and non-resident overnight shifts. Weekend on-call duties are 1:6, with one consultant covering the weekend and another supporting Saturday and Sunday. A PAU consultant will work weekdays 9-5, handling GP and ED referrals, urgent outpatient assessments, and patient treatment. The model of care may evolve to meet Royal College standards. Job responsibilities The successful candidate will provide high-quality clinical services to patients, GPs, and attend multidisciplinary meetings. Work will be on multiple sites, with opportunities to extend services to GP surgeries and health centers. Responsibilities include supporting A&E and acute medicine, providing clinical advice, participating in cross-site meetings, and sharing on-call duties, including attending the hospital for patient reviews during weekends.
