About the WardLocated on the site of the former Newhaven Downs Hospital, our ward cares for patients who no longer need acute hospital care but require skilled nursing and therapeutic support, such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy, before transitioning out of NHS inpatient care. A dedicated team of nurses, therapists, doctors, and support staff cares for 34 patients, supporting their recovery and independence. Our Trust and CollaborationWe are a standalone unit within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, working closely with wards and departments at RSCH and PRH. Eligibility and InterestsWe welcome applications from those with a UK NMC registration. If you hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship, please note we are not currently hiring internationally qualified nurses directly. Applicants should have a keen interest in patient rehabilitation, promoting independence, and providing compassionate, dignified care. Strong numeracy, literacy, and communication skills are essential. Role ExpectationsThe ideal candidate will deliver high standards of care, with interests in falls prevention, dementia care, tissue viability, nutrition, and hydration. Opportunities include gaining experience in complex discharge planning. The role requires effective teamwork and collaboration with diverse staff to uphold Trust and NMC standards. Support and DevelopmentYou will be supported by the senior nursing team, receive local and trust inductions, and access a robust preceptorship program to aid your development. Ongoing support includes regular appraisals, competency-based learning, and study days.
