The Department of General Anaesthesia is part of the Division of Surgery, but it collaborates across four clinical divisions within UHBW: Surgery (general anaesthesia and critical care), Specialised Services (cardiac anaesthesia), Women's and Children's (paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia), and Weston. We are seeking locum consultants in general anaesthesia to join our team based at Bristol Royal Infirmary. The successful candidate will join a friendly, supportive, and cohesive group of 45 substantive consultants within the general anaesthesia team. The position is offered at 10.5 PAs. Main duties of the jobThis role is primarily based at Bristol Royal Infirmary, with one clinical day each week at Weston General Hospital. It covers a flexible service requirement for adult general anaesthetic services including maxillofacial, ENT, dental, obstetrics, gynaecology, thoracic, upper & lower GI, ophthalmic surgery, long-term IV access (ports/tunnelled lines), acute and chronic pain, and pre-operative assessment. The post holder will contribute to the out-of-hours weekend rota across both sites. The role involves work across multiple hospital sites: Bristol Royal Infirmary, Weston General Hospital, St Michael's Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital, and South Bristol Community Hospital. UHBW is a large inner-city teaching hospital with close links to Southmead Hospital and the University of Bristol. The department has a strong teaching tradition and supports the Bristol Medical Simulation Centre. Applicants must hold FRCA (UK) or equivalent and be within 6 months of their CCT date at the time of interview. Flexibility in working hours is required to ensure smooth service delivery.
