Work rotationally in specified sections of the laboratory: Specimen Dissection and Core Laboratory OR Core Laboratory and Special Diagnostics. Participate in specimen reception, preparation, documentation, processing, and production of histology sections for microscopic examination. Assist in the training and development of junior staff. Participate in Saturday rota and occasional weekend work. Ensure efficient and safe use of consumables and equipment. Maintain cleanliness and day-to-day maintenance of laboratory equipment. Participate in quality control, quality assurance, and risk management procedures. Supervise and mentor trainee biomedical scientists and other healthcare professionals. Communicate effectively with all relevant staff groups and service users.Essential Qualifications And SkillsRegistration with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist. BSc Honours Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent. Evidence of competency at a specialist level (e.g., IBMS Specialist Diploma). Minimum two years post-registration experience in Cellular Pathology. Broad knowledge and experience of Cellular Pathology techniques, including immunohistochemistry and quality assurance. Effective interpersonal and communication skills.Desirable SkillsEffective team worker. Good organizational skills. Knowledge of Trust and lab policies. Experience in staff training and supervision.Working ConditionsLaboratory-based work with frequent movement between sections. Handling hazardous chemicals and low-temperature substances. Participation in technically demanding procedures requiring prolonged concentration. Requirement to wear personal protective equipment. Occasional distressing specimens and significant "sharps" hazard.Professional DevelopmentUndertake continued professional development.
