The position is for a relief milker who will be responsible for all the immediate aspects of milking cows daily. It is part time, 3 days a week, split shift, 5.30am and 3.30pm starts. The candidate will be unsupervised but the owner will be contactable at all times.All potential candidates should read through the following details of this job with care before making an application.ResponsibilitiesThe relief milker is responsible for all aspects starting with preparing the milking parlour, checking the function of the milk vat and gathering the cows to the yard. During milking, the milker must clean the udders, check for signs of ill health and unusual behaviour, feed the cows, place the clusters on the udders and dip the teats prior to leaving the parlour. at the end of milking the parlour is cleaned inside and out. The cows have to be returned to the correct area. The yard must be scraped, calves fed with milk and other feeds as required. All cattle must be observed at least once a day. A small amount of cattle handling will be involved.QualificationsNo formal qualifications are required but would be an advantage. The successful candidate must be able to read and write and have experience of dairy faming. A full UK driving license is not necessary as the candidate is not required to drive on the road ,but would be useful.
