Our Client, an independent family owned brewery in Scotland, has been brewing some of the UKs most lauded beers for over 40 years. They are looking to recruit a passionate, organised, quality focused and driven Head Brewer, who will be only the third person in four decades to lead the brewing team and build on their success to develop the business. Reporting to the Managing Director the Head Brewer is a critically important part of the efficient running of the brewery, acting as a central point, focussing on leading the team, delivering the core range of beers plus developing new products.This is a wonderful, rare opportunity to join a proudly independent business managing all the day to day operations of the brewery and play a leading role in developing and implementing the strategy to develop and expand the business. A taproom and other projects are planned.Key responsibilities will include:Responsible for ensuring Health & Safety, compliance with relevant industry legislation and food quality/safety standards, including annual audits for SALSA Leading, developing, motivating and training the brewing teamProduction scheduling to ensure the delivery of product just in time and on budget.Work with the senior management team to create and manage plans to increase annual output in line with agreed sales forecasts whilst working on efficiencies and margin optimisation.Maintain hygiene, record keeping and quality control to a high standard.Experience of managing and maintaining standard operating procedures, together with HACCP plans and COSHH.Develop and manage the delivery of seasonal, one-off, and small batch beers, to a pre-agreed calendar and to appropriate costings.Maintain strong, open working relationships with suppliers and customers.Negotiate regularly with suppliers for the supply of raw material contracts and ordering of raw materials necessary to fulfil production and delivery schedule.Work with the sales team and operations to ensure availability and safe delivery of core products.Manage quality processes to maintain the excellent standard of product.Key experience:5+ years’ experience in commercial brewingPrevious experience in managing a teamIdeally a relevant technical degree, IBD qualification or similar Proficient IT and excellent communication skillsAnalytical capabilitiesProject Management experienceWork well under pressure.Flexibility, with the ability to adapt, and problem solve.Passion for the brewing and hospitality industryApplications from candidates already eligible to work in the UK only please.
